Firehouse Angel: Suggestions recap

There have been so many good ideas coming in on the finishing and presentation of the Angel, and it?s been encouraging to see the level of interest and the offers of contributions from those who came late to the stitching party!

Here are this one stitcher?s personal thoughts on some of the suggestions:

FRAME: There are so many possibilities here that we might start by looking at the one MLI chose for the original Angel. It?s on her website at

Is this along the lines of what we want? More elaborate? Less elaborate?

MAT: A simple mat in an appropriate color would enhance the Angel.

GLASS: I assume this is a given, considering the Angel?s home-to-be, and I assume we want conservation-grade glass.

PLAQUE: This is a splendid idea, informative to firefighters and to visitors, and should be on the frame, museum-style.

BACK: So many ideas! We should remember that whatever is attached to the back should be what the recipients will find interesting. I?m sure they would enjoy knowing the (first) names and states of the stitchers and other participants. And we should include credit to MLI for ?Angel of the Morning? and perhaps an excerpt from her info on its creation. But would they find interesting the original chart or the WIP photos? I don?t know. George, and significant male others, what do you think? An envelope seems cumbersome and unlikely to be opened, while a laminated document of some sort attached to the back could be easily seen.

PRESENTATION: If none of the ?instigators? can do this, anyone from rctn who is able and willing can represent us all. Publicity? I have mixed feelings about this. While we do not seek recognition, it might encourage people to visit the Angel and pay their respects.

OK, fellow stitchers, you take it from here!

Sorry about that excess space. Looks like my "spacemaker: went on a spree.

Truth be told? I think MLI uses generic framing for her models. There are many more interesting frames and options available which would set her off better. IMO, of course! :)

Definitely! It would also give room for the plaque.

Yup. Even if it goes to the Fireman's museum.

Thank you! :) (

It's been a long time since I've been in NYC, but to the best of my knowledge, FDNY Headquarters is an office building, it does not contain a working firehouse. So worries about the Angel being exposed to exhaust fumes from large fire engines are groundless.

However, I still think conservation-grade materials for frame/mat/glass are a good idea. I'd be more than glad to chip in on this.

I had assumed that everyone would want all of the supplies used to be conservation quality. I'm glad to see that most others are in agreement. If you would like to donate to the Framing Fund, please e-mail me at CatWom7711 at aol dot com . CiaoMeow >^;;^<
