Website: Firehouse Angel

I've sat here all afternoon and revamped the website for our project. The chronological order is smoother - all pictures are the same width and for that reason, much smaller. So more fits on a page. I've gone from 6 pages to two.

That meant that some close ups are gone. I could link to a larger picture, but at this stage, I think small pics showing the progress are enough. Any thoughts here? I figured the larger pics were for us to see the detail to keep us motivated and not much else.

I'm also concerned that there is a mix up on a couple of the individuals who stitched. For instance, there was a mix up with Cheryl I and Cheryl M and I never did get that straight. I beeped when I should have booped on that one. And, there is a pic called Chris that has Cheryl's (one of them) name attached to the wording.

Other than that, it's done. I'd like to just keep the site for awhile. No special reason. Just call me sentimental.

I'd also like Anne's permission to use the first paragraph of her post as the last entry on the "progress" pages. I'd tried emailing and it bounced.

Can you post the link to it again? I'd love to see it. Thanks to you, too, for doing this.

If you're referring to me, please tell me what you need permission for either here or privately. If not me, hopefully the Anne you're referring to will respond.

I believe you talked to FDNY? If so, it's you. :~) You posted about the news you received from FDNY and I want to use your words from your post on the site. Specifically:

"Captain Michael Parks of Ladder Company 14 in New York called earlier today. . . [and related] that the effort to create the Firehouse Angel is greatly appreciated and how very beautiful she is. It was decided that her permanent home should be in an office area in his fire station that houses Battalion 12 headquarters rather than in a downtown building where she might not stand out among the many other tributes that have been sent to the Fire Department. "

ALSO: Where was she originally presented? What company? Do I understand correctly that you set up the meeting? I'll just add that, as well. I have the picture of the truck and men with Heather and Linda, but I don't know where that is taken.

I know. I know. I should pay closer attention. Dianne

I like the smaller pictures for a recap of the project. Maybe a larger picture of the finished project?

A couple of other thoughts/suggestions/questions: Do you have a date for when Linda stitched on it? That's the only picture missing a date (on the 2nd history page). When re-reading the "About the Design" page, I wondered if anyone has been keeping MLI up-to-date with her progress? I'm sure she'd like to know about this if she doesn't already.

I must be more sentimental than you! :) Is there any way/place it could be kept permanently? It seems a shame to do all this work and just let it disappear. I'm thinking that a couple years down the road, someone's going to say, "Remember when we stitched on the angel for the firefighters?" And newbies are going to say, "What angel?"

That's my 2c-worth.

And thanks, Dianne! You've done a *wonderful* job with the website and trying to keep up with all the changes over the years!!!

Do you think it might be a good idea to tell the firefighters about the website? That way those who might be interested could track the progress and get some understanding of how much work went into it and just how it traveled about. Lucille

Dianne,

Check your email. I opted not to bore RCTN people with explanations and details.

I haven't read the other posts so I'm not sure if the stitchers have given you info Dianne. OK -- I am looking at the list I have kept, lo these three long years and there was NO CHRIS involved in the stitching. Cheryl M is the only Cheryl who worked on the piece. The only other "C" stitchers were Carolyn W. & Cindy P. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Anne is the one who did a lot of cyber leg work AND phone calling to track down Suzanne who is the even coordinator. Once Anne made contact with Suzanne, she got me into the e-mail loop. I e-mailed Suzanne and told her that two "local" stitchers who had been involved in the project would be delivering the Angel. I did an e-mail introduction between Heather, Linda & Suzanne so that they could coordinate a time, place, etc. and just asked to be kept in the e-mail loop. I want to again thank Anne for her efforts. Let me say again that without the excellent work that Anne did, I'm not sure HOW the Angel would have been delivered or how a suitable place for her would have been found! I was not the least bit interested in doing that part of the project and neither was anyone else -- LOL! So MAJOR thanks go to Anne for all of her cyber sleuthing around the FDNY site!! I'll see what I can do!

Linda . . . where are you. Can anyone fill in this blank?

I made the initial contact with MLI. I'm sure she's forgotten all about this project, but I don't mind letting her know. I'm just not sure we want to go there. It was *very* dicey getting her permission to start with. I had to go through several hoops.

As long as I have a server, I don't mind keeping it alive and well. I host several web sites, so I don't see me without one for a very long time. With this in mind, I'll throw out another thought. I had never told my daughter about this project. I made an announcement on my forum to see if anyone wanted to become a part of it. But after that, I told no one.

Yesterday, I mentioned it to DD. She flipped that I hadn't told her and wanted the web site URL. So, I sent her there. She called me back and thinks she ought to send something to CNN. I told her our little venture was just a drop in the bucket compared to all the other things that have been given the various FDNY companies, and we really wanted anonymity. But she still held out that more people should know about it. She thought it was gorgeous and that the story behind it was beautiful and very meaningful.

This has already been mentioned on her Yahoo group within the last couple of days. Karen C. posted about it, and Marilyn seems pleased with the firefighters' response.

Yippee! :-) I'd really hate to see this disappear anytime soon.

What a sweet girl. WE know that none of us wanted to do this for the publicity, but it's nice to know it has struck a cord with others outside our group.

Oh, good. I really didn't want to face that again. One never knows with Marilyn how she will react to something.

Linda T. (I assume you mean Linda who worked on the piece and went with Heather to deliver Her to the Firehouse) is in New Jersey just a spit in the wind from NYC. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

The only thing I noticed was the spelling of her name - should be: Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum
