Firehouse Angel update

Hi Guys, I picked up the finished Angel this afternoon and she is lovely :-). I will have her in the mail to Heather & Linda by the end of the week. I have posted a "preliminary" photo at Webshots. It was taken by Susan in the shop and it's not very goo. When I get a few minutes, I will try to take a better picture and TRY to get it uploaded to Webshots. Problem is that I have never downloaded photos from the camera to the computer and DH is in CT. right now traveling from one town to the next! I'll post again when I get another photo up at Webshots. Please send a copy of the photo to me so that I can update the website. Even a so-so picture can be elevated to a better look most times, anyway.

Well, sometimes I get something in my head and don't stop to think of anything else. She's absolutely GORGEOUS! Great job framing and matting. I tried to get the image off your site. We'll see.

Can any of us pitch in to help defray the final costs involved so that you're not stuck with a huge bill? I can't remember how this all shook out.

I'm usually silent here but this time I have to say I am very impressed. I have been following the angel's progress with great anticipation and was not disappointed. Great work ladies!

I have about $70.00 left from what has already been sent in for the framing. I'm pretty sure I have enough stuff to do the packing myself

-- just need to get a box large enough. I'm not sure how far that $70.00 will go towards covering the actual shipping costs but if it's a bunch more, I will post what the overage is. I'm willing to put in some money towards shipping costs if needed so if it costs more than I feel I can justify, I'll let you guys know. If I'm supposed to get that money back then it will come to me, of not, I certainly won't go hungry :-)). Besides -- wouldn't hurt me to miss a few meals anyway -- LOLOL! I'm very pleased to know that so many of you approve of what was chosen for matting & framing. It was the choice of many of you but it's hard to tell from the hodge podge of photos I provided. DIANNE -- I'll e-mail you the photo I have. Once I get one that shows the color of the mats better, I will send that also. Remember, the inner mat is a pale creamy flesh with little speckles of blue that are almost exactly the color of the fabric. The top mat is almost exactly the color of my skin which is a sort of average rosy beige flesh tone. It's the texture of the suede cloth and the mottling that make it look truly lovely against the Angel. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Aren't there some UPS stores - in larger metro areas- that pack for you? Or is that Fed Ex? Or is that just a "store" that packs and mails for you? I know I've seen television ads for these places, but being in the boonies, I don't pay much attention.

Anyway, I was thinking if there *was* such a place, they might know how to pack it so the glass doesn't break. Not that you don't know how. Just thinking out loud. They might have just the right materials to keep everything rigid.

Yep -- most of the mailing places -- UPS Store, Pak & Mail, etc. will pack the item for you. I plan to get an estimate from them but I'm not sure I would trust them! I have packed and shipped several finished pieces **with glass** and never had a problem. I always use LOTS of bubble wrap, naugha-bones (also known as bones of the Dreaded Naugha OR packing peanuts -- LOL) and put heavy styrofoam pieces on the corners of the frame. What keeps something from breaking is having it NOT move around inside the packing box. This is certainly a case where my belief that "If some is good, more is better" pays off -- LOLOL! ps--You dare to use the bones of the Dreaded Naugha. Isn't that an endangered species???? ;^)))

Tia Mary, you've done such a marvelous job throughout the entire process of shepherding the Angel, and you and the entire team of master stitchers have created a treasure to be cherished for generations. There aren't enough glowing adjectives to adequately describe the magnificent creation you all have wrought with your skilled fingers, laser-like vision, and caring hearts.

My brother, like you, has a lack of trust in the brick and mortar packing/shipping vendors. He just recently packed and shipped a service for

12 of family china he's passing on to a niece, and she reported that all was received in perfect condition, with nary a scratch. The packing process took several hours, from what he told me, and once done, he emailed that he didn't just carefully pack the china, he "mummified" it. I have a feeling you have packed some mummies in your time, as well, LOL.

Tia Mary,

My DH worked for UPS for 5 or 6 years (as a loader of the big trucks and as a supervisor in land and air shipping) PLUS he runs a direct mail company that ships very pricey framed items...

Sounds to me like you've got all the shipping issues covered. The biggest things are to keep items from moving inside the packing box AND to keep the glass covered so that accidental impact can't put breaking force on the glass itself.

:) EG
