Firehouse Angel update

From personal experience, you could double the cost of shipping if you let UPS or FedEx do the packing. I suppose they have to cover the wages of the packer and the cost of materials. However, I thought what I was charged for packing and shipping a shadow box display was highway robbery.

I got several estimates today and it will cost about $60.00 to have the Angel packed (est. $20 for packing) and shipped (est. min $40.00 for this) no matter where I go. Since I have $70.00 left from the $$ donated, I will let one of those places do the packing. BUT I will already have the piece wrapped in plastic with the dense foam on the corners AND a piece of heavy cardboard and bubble wrap covering the glass. I already have this stuff so won't have to purchase anything -- Susan gave me tons of bubble wrap and heavy cardboard and my friend Marsha gave me a gigantic piece of the really dense styrofoam. I like the people at the UPS store better than the other stores I went to so I think I will let them have my business. Besides, they are right next to the grocery where there is a Starbucks so after dropping off the Angel, I will treat myself to the largest size Iced Chai Tea Latte as a reward :-))). Now all I have to do is find the digital camera and take some better photos of our Angel. You REALLY need to see the colour of the mats -- they are sooo pretty. I'll post when I finally get more photos up at Webshots AND when I get the Angel sent on her way to Heather in NY. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

If you're happy, I'm happy ;-) Matter of fact, I'm so happy that we've almost reached the finale for this project, I could spit!!!! When the Longuylanders bring it into the city, tell 'em to bring lots of film!!!!!!! When you know the date and time, let me know. I'd like to tell the Captain who helped find the right person at HQ as he might be able to attend.

Never fear -- I'll kvetch at Linda & Heather about the film but I'd be willing to bet it won't be necessary :-). I got an e-mail from Linda saying she was ready but I haven't heard back from Heather yet. I wonder if she's off on holiday or something?? I think once a date and time have been set, it should be posted here. Either one of the "Exhaulted Presentation Personnel" that's Linda & Heather -- LOL) should post or I will if they have a sudden attack of the "shys".
