Goal for the next 10 days - on and off topic

I think it would be great if someone would invent a locator that you could wear around your neck to find the phone, TV remote and glasses and bring them to you. Would that be asking too much?

Good idea. If he was younger and I was more patient I'll bet I could. Therapy dogs can do it.

And the freckles. Truly - I think at my wedding I told people I looked like a tomato/aspic salad (it was quite hot, and I wore pale kind of celadon green, and we were outdoors).

The LNS/framer my close friend owns had issues at end of lease. The landlord wanted to raise her a bit - mostly because he had another tenant wanting her space and a backing space, plus it's in the area which is now hit with a surcharge to go to the Dulles rail extension. Anyhow, she decided to seek another location (it'a bit more complicated, and she can use some time for herself now anyways), found one - but they needed some zoning variance because in this county her framing business - because she builds from scratch not just ordering in pre-cuts - has a manufacturing category. So, while awaiting to hear if they get approval for this really good new location - she had to vacate the old location. So, she's still doing framing - set-up in her house. Eventually the shop will reopen somewhere - I think she's going to send mailings to her list kind of explaining the hiatus til the new location once it's definite where that will be.

*snip*

Absolutely. We couldn't decide if the machine postage with date would do it.

Actually, I think it's kind of interesting to keep track of time on projects. Not for my "speed stitching" - but when I'm teaching it helps me to know how long it takes me to do things, gives a basis for how much class time will be needed to teach the technique and let people get some stitching done. I've now also moved into the must have a doodle cloth next to me to work on scenario for the original pieces. Ack. I was reading something that one of my idols, Joyce Lukomski, wrote - about always having a piece of canvas framed up to play with before putting some new stitch on the "real" piece. I've often done that a bit, but now, well, I'm just putting another clean piece on a smaller set of stretchers and working it out.

But don't you find that just the act of writing things down is so calming and clarifying? Sometimes I just write the damn list and barely refer back to it.

Golly, last night was *stifling* here - that 90% was NOT an exaggeration! Our power went out around 6:30 p.m. - and I hadn't even started to think about dinner yet. So DH and I went to the grocery store salad bar and brought it home to eat outside on the deck, because the air had absolutely stopped moving.

No fans in the house, too many bugs to sit outside, we finally went to bed around 10:30 for lack of anything better to do. And it was SO hot, I was just laying there sweating. UGH. No air movement at all. You could cut it with a knife.

Thankfully the power went back on in the middle of the night, and DH had remembered to turn on the fans before we went to bed, so they started up while we slept. Today it's gorgeous out - sunny and breezy, with air blowing through constantly. What a contrast to last night!

Obviously, no stitching last night. I managed to read awhile with my "itty bitty night light" clip-on. But without any street lamps, the house was pitch dark - unusual for this city girl!

You have my sincerest and deepest sympathy.

We suffer from power outages every so often, in the winter from the wind and in the interminable FL summer from the heat. I have little mag light flashlights in every room, a big lantern in the laundry room, a little rechargeable light that stays plugged in all the time and acts like a night light but is supposed to go on battery when there is a power failure and, of course, a battery operated radio. My best purchase, of all is the battery operated fan that isn't the strongest but sure helps when the air goes off in our badly insulated houses.

Oh yes, thanks for the reminder. I must fill a few extra bottles with water because oftentimes our water system goes off when the power fails.

Such fun.

I think it would be excellent...but it would also need another function...fine the car keys!

Very true, Sue! The problem, when I do remember to take the list, is that usually I find another dozen items which I need, and didn't write down. There was a very rare day recently when I had eight items on my list, and that is ALL I bought! It might have been a "first" for me.

That's the one and only thing that always goes right back where it belongs, in my purse. Now you've got me thinking about why??? lol

What you gals need is a chatelaine. A REAL one, not just decorative. To hold all of today's necessities, rather than those of an 18th century housewife.

I'm getting a picture of all of my 5' tall 97 lb. self crawling around under the weight of a phone, TV remote, glasses and car keys. Don't you think that might just be a little heavy for wearing around your neck? lol

My key ring is attached to a big silver hook, which is usually hooked right onto the ring of my purse handle...never lost!

Not really. And in any case, you could always keep it in a waist pack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (or one of today's fashionable backback purses.)

Well, DH took over the grocery shopping some years back, and one of my peeves is he sticks too closely to the list. He'll take advantage of sales and coupons, as warranted. But when I did the shopping, I always "knew" when we needed toilet paper, paper towels, napkins -- stuff like that, the things that got used up all the time and needed re-stocking, without being written down. (TP doesn't go bad, so when in doubt, buy it!) So now I've learned to write down *everything* I can possibly think of (or else wait til the next week).

It seems a little over the top. Personally I would prefer wearing gemstones around my neck. Maybe living in New Orleans you see things that are suitable for Mardi Gras. RD&H

Did you know that you can't change the channel on the TV with the phone, or dial the remote? I keep trying, but it just won't work. lol

Minority voice?? I never make daily lists. They seem so.....final. I tend to just jump off the edge of the day and see where I land.

You poor thing. I'm so sorry - it was stifling and wet.

Last year we had that happen, and about 5 years ago in the old house - same thing - transformer out. That time, we just went swimming, and then went down into the basement and slept on the old sofa - tight, but cool. Last year - we figured the basement trick worked - so went down there with sheets and slept on the sectional - where I usually stitch. I'm sorry.

Glad you got it back during the night. It was gorgeous today. We decided to go downtown - there is a really nice, albeit small, exhibit on Abraham Lincoln at the National Portrait Gallery.

'd seen some info about this on PBS, and wanted to go - so we went. Veryfull of tourists on the mall, not too bad up at the Portrait Gallery (whichshares a building - formerly the Patent Office) with National Gallery ofAmerican Art. As this is the bicentennial of his birth, there is a lot ofLincoln stuff happening or on display around town - for those of you thatmay be interested.

Also, we saw a really interesting modern art installation called "Common Threads" - DH thought I'd tricked him into a stitching thing, but it's not. However, a very intriguing exhibit. Anyhow, we did get to do some nice walking around in the good weather.

That real dark - it's actually pretty dark here in Loudoun - especially compared with being in Falls Church. I didn't stitch either, as I'm a bad girl - and DH has reminded me to get back with my schedule and list. The car is still in the shop - evidently the pump which was replaced on Wed may be defective, and they didn't get that figured out til late in the afternoon, so will have to get one on Monday (hopefully). So, tomorrow DH can drop me at work at 6:30, but then I'll have to hike it home after noon, as he's got softball at 12. Never ends.

Hope your house is nice and cool today.
