magazines

Which reminds me, Caryn, watch your mail. The junior high's magazine drive is being done in October instead of March, and Heather's having them send you a packet!

This has been an interesting topic.

I haven't been on-line much lately. And, I have a question. I notice that there are many, many less messages at this newsgroup lately. Is there a problem I am not aware of? I have so enjoyed all of the give and take. There doesn't seem to be as much going on. Or, have I just logged on to a slow weekend?

Thanks in advance.

Slow weekend I think, Phoebe, although judging by Ebay and the Magazine racks I think that the stitching is dropping off a little, too. There doesn`t seem to be half the selection (on either) that there was even a year ago.

Inspirations is a lovely magazine, with a great variety. I don't get it myself, as the designs aren't what appeals to this male stitcher, but I certainly admire it.

Also Jill Oxton's Cross Stitch and Beading. Is this widely available in the US? The designs in this tend to be a bit "different", but they're stunning when they're done and framed. Many of the designs can be done in either stitching or square stitch beading, and they're spectacular.

The designs are gorgeous, and very much to my taste, but it's very expensive here in the U.S.

Funny, I've only seen one or two issues and I've never been moved to spend the $$$ for it. Averages around $18 at Barnes and Noble and Borders!

I only saw what was visible on their website and that's not a very good view. My Barnes and Noble never had a copy when I was there. I'm going to ask them if they do stock it and if so, I'll try to get there to see it in person before I spend that kind of money. Unfortunately, they only get in 1 or 2 copies of each magazine and the store isn't in a convenient place, so by the time I get there, they generally have none left.

At $18 a copy, it would have to have several things I like and since I only saw the covers, I doubt I will take a chance on ordering it.

Hello! I am new to this group. I recognize several of you from other newsgroups!! I have a question and I don't know if any one else knows the answer either. My favorite magazines were Decorative Crochet and Magic Crochet. I don't know what hapened to them. They just stopped being put out. I have looked everywhere. I was a subscriber and when the subscriptions ran out this past spring, so did the magazines!! Does anyone happen to know what happened to them? I had looked at the first page where it lists where it is published from, and it comes from France. There never was a phone number to call anywhere either. I am clueless. Other than that, My new favorite (by default) is Piecework. Thank you! Fairwinner

Are you sure they are both gone? I picked them now and then, but I'm sure I saw Magic Crochet fairly recently.

Try looking at Borders, they seem to have the most extensive magazine collection (far far better than my local Barnes & Noble).

Hi Caryn. I have looked everywhere here. There isn't a Borders anywhere near here either. The closest one would be about an hour and a half away. A little too far for me! Thank you Fairwinner
