Mythical stitching quest

Ditto the hatred of hand creams and also, I can't stand anything scented. I've found the Udderly sMOOth is bearable -- when I actually remember to put it on! It's also very reasonably priced, so I put one on each floor to make it easier to remember to put it on frequently.

The dishwasher hasn't been working in a few weeks, and now my hands feel like sandpaper. Good thing the current projects aren't silks! I'll roll out the red carpet for the repair person when he/she comes tomorrow.

Poor thing. Rubber gloves, eh? Even for washing the odds 'n ends, and especially the pots - I try to remember to where mine. Hot water just kills my hands. Plus, I'm paranoid about my ring and losing a stone down the drain...

I'm in the opposite boat - almost everything I'm working on right now is silk, or some specialty threads. The only cotton - a Buttons 'n Beads kit (Martini) for the shop - which I'll eventually take home.

If you can't stand scented, Burt's Bees is definitely not for you! Eucalyptus and lavender figure prominently.

Elizabeth

I love scented creams but DH surely doesn't.

BTW - remember that wonderful lavender bath oil you gave me. DD "borrowed" it and adds it to a bath after her post hockey shower....

I used to use a Jason product - at least I think it's Jason - Wise Woman face cream. Man - that was nice; not to heavy, not too light. Can't find it anymore. C

I never know what shampoo, soap, lotion is going to irritate my intermittently sensitive skin -- my solution is to buy cheap stuff so not much money is wasted if I have to throw it out.

Eons ago, I slavishly lathered anti-zits stuff on my face. As a 'mature' adult, I'm lucky if I remember where the creams and lotions are, let alone remembering to use them.

I always said I need a clone that knows *exactly* what I know so there would be two of me to get everything done!

Lavender is supposed to be calming but my boss read somewhere (a prison study, I think) that for some people it makes them react violently. I think I'm one of them because lavender is one of the few fragrances I just recoil at (at which I recoil?).

Joan

DH doesn't like it much either! Cheryl

Prolly just as well DD stole the Lavender bath oil, then, eh? Wouldn't want him pushing you out of bed when you're all nice and sleepy and relaxed, would we?

Elizabeth

Nah - I'm asleep before him 90% of the time.

It sounds like what we all really want/need is an "Alice" like the Brady Bunch family had. :-))) I thought about a "Hazel" from 50s TV fame with Shirley Booth, but she was a little too mouthy for my taste. Alice always seemed nice, efficient and in a good mood. That's exactly what I'd like. On the other hand, Mary Poppins would be pretty neat since she could probably get us a break on chimney sweep fees so DH wouldn't have to get up on the roof with a bunch of chains every summer. First we put a big old tarp or sheet around the wood stove, then DH shakes a bunch of chains down the chimney, which breaks up any soot that has accumulated on the sides of the stove pipe. It's messy, but it gets the job done and the price is right. No one wants a stove pipe fire! I LOVE sitting in my "nest" next to the wood stove on these blustery evenings, knowing that I'm not paying the power company to keep warm. :-)))))

Exactly - a housekeeper would be the right about amount of attachment. Doing a job, being paid to do it, doing so with pride and affection.

C

That's why I want a wife. I don't want to pay to have it done, other than room and board. And traditionally, wife didn't imply any emotional attachment - it was just a way to pass a woman from working for her father to working for a younger man.

Elizabeth (and MY wife wouldn't have to bear children)

But what if she wanted children?????

C

What, a wife with a will of her own? How absolutely revolutionary. How feminist. It won't be tolerated.

Elizabeth

Why didn't you warn me in advance. I giggled at your answer and spit a life saver halfway across the room. It just missed Sir Puffness by a hair.

Sputter, spew...looking for a towel.

Good luck in Franklin today!

I was glad I was still waiting on my second cuppa.

Off to hockey....

Thank you for recommending this........My sister has just arrived here for a few weeks holiday, and I asked her to bring some of the Burt's bees hand salve with her, which she has done, and also a Head to Toe trial kit. I've been watching TV for the last hour or so salving my hands and I like them better already! The Australian sun damages hands terribly, especially as it cooks them through the windscreen of you car each day. My hands are dry and dreadfully scarred where solar keratoses have been burned off, and where squamous cells have been removed - if I can find the discipline to use this at night perhaps there is hope yet that my hands will transform from the hens feet like horrors that they are now.

Cheers
