Needle Necessities

Rumor on the EGA list is that Needle Necessities is going out of business.

If any of your charts call for the stuff, get it now.

According to my LNS, someone else (who learned from Elaine) is going to be doing the same colors. The new threads are supposed to be available sometime after the TNNA show in Jnauary, but some shops already have conversion lists.

Well, the website hasn't been updated in a year. Has anyone emailed her?

It's lovely stuff, I sure hope that a buyer can be arranged.

Are there any conversion lists online? I'd be surprised if NOTHING in my stash uses Needle Necessities, you know?

I did email them and got a sad note from Debbie that her last day was the 25th of September. She didn't say anything about anything else happening afterwards, but she did say "Who knows, maybe something else will pop-up."

I hope so!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for a new owner/dyer/floss enabler. I have what I need to do the one piece I know I have to do on hand and some bits from friends. It is a joy to work with.

When Elaine moved her store some years ago, her then manager took the formulas and some other stuff, and Elaine was out of business for several months while she tried to recoup. The store manager was arrested. This was known to many in the needlework business at the time since Elaine made no secret of it. I never heard what finally happened to the manager. Anyone else know about this?

Actually, I do know something about that. The manager (not a friend of mine, I never knew her) left the company when the business was moved and she didn't want to move with them. She was owed money and was told that she could take it in stock since they were short of cash at the time. The problem arose when it came to the accounting for the stock. The company assumed that she would take stock and be charged the bulk rate (about $2.00/skein). She assumed that the stock would be valued at the most discounted rate ($1.00/skein) and that was how she took it, which just about cleaned out NN's stock. The manager then sold most of this on the internet at $1.00 skein to get her money back. I remember buying some of this discounted thread at the time to fill out my NN collection. The manager never had criminal charges filed against her but the case ended up in civil court.
