Way back when, when DD was just learning to skate and play hockey, her coach was a sweetheart of a guy. In fact, the whole family was pretty special. I'd bounce the baby during family skates and games. Well, after a great year and lots of "see you next season", the coach and his sons weren't there next season. But, they had talked about moving, so maybe they had.
No - the oldest boy had cancer and it wasn't going well. Offered to baby-sit and do what we could. And then, the youngest came back to hockey and all was pretty decent. Lots of healing to do and GrandMama ( a bit of a dragon) had come to live with them. And then he relapsed and it was really bad. And silence.
Heavens knows, you didn't want to call. But danged if I don't think of them every time I walk into the rink
Well, yesterday I got a gift - I saw Mom and that sweet baby (now age 5) at the local Trader Joe's. The oldest is doing well; he and his brother have lost all interest in hockey, but the other daughter just started playing hockey on the developmental team. So I'll see them around the rink soon.
