Or a cream cheese and olive sandwich on whole wheat. Y'know, I had a hankering for cream cheese and olive last week, and asked DH to pick it up at the grocery store, and he said they don't have it any more! So I made my own. As kids, we used to also eat cream cheese and jelly occasionally - I haven't heard of anyone having that for *years*!

Cream cheese and Olive I will happily serve you, but liverwurst is a definite no-no and in my opinion "blech." Maybe I might bring it in to give Puff a pill, and even then only if nothing else worked.

Cream cheese and jelly on a bagel sounds great and maybe I'll do that tomorrow.

I guess you realize by now that my palate isn't particularly sophisticated. lol

Jelly? It must be another of those UK and North America language anomalies (crisps v chips). The only jelly I'm familiar with is Rowntree's Jelly, the stuff that goes into trifles. The thought of eating it with cream cheese is appalling! Bruce

Jelly = jam or preserves, or close enough. Sounds a little unappetizing to me with cream cheese, as well.

It's really good actually, not an everyday thing, and perhaps an acquired taste, but this thread is going to knock me off my diet.

Another personal fave. I bake it with semi-regularity (2-3 times a year).

DD got a loaf of cheddar cheese bread for her BD last weekend. It's a yeast bread - basically white bread with cheddar cheese mixed in. It's divine for morning toast!

That was only good if you got it from Chock Full O Nuts and finished off the meal with a whole wheat donut. It sounds weird but it was really good.

That place may have been the first "fast food joint" on the planet.

I got hooked another "odd" combination while I was in the UK. Supposedly, the staff at the bed and breakfast got it from the Swedes that stayed there regularly. White toast, butter (had to be butter), sharp cheese and orange marmalade. It is wonderful

I've had butter and marmalade but never with a sharp cheese. It sounds good to me.

One idiosyncracy from the North of England was a slice of Cheddar Cheese with Christmas Cake (aka rich fruit cake). Not too bad really. A taste that I never really acquired was kippers with jam or marmalade; and I won't comment on my grandmother's favourite snack of a slice of fruit cake between two slices of sliced bread. Having written this I suppose I must confess that my supper tonight was a pint of home-brewed best bitter with a slice of home-made bread & butter with Cheddar cheese & pickle... Bruce

Mmmmmmm! Gotta love liverwurst! Poor man's pâte! I used to enjoy hot toast thickly spread with cream cheese (no butter) and with a thin slice of pastrami on top. Delicious! Cream cheese and anchovy paste is nice too. Or cream cheese, smoked salmon and a teensy squish of lime juice...

Drool.

Once, I made chicken liver pâte with cognac. It took about a day, by the time I'd picked over and chopped the livers, cooked them, boiled them, skimmed off the fat and then processed them to within an inch of their lives, but O! What a treat that pâte was! It had a strong liver flavour which was perfectly enhanced by the suspicion of cognac and a lovely chicken aspic topping.

Also good are me Dad's favourite, Lamb's Fry and Bacon or Lamb's Fry hamburgers (minced lamb's liver mixed with diced onion, tomato, worcestershire sauce and breadcrumbs, then formed into burgers and browned)

Liver rulz! Must get some. It's the right weather for it over here at the moment. 4ºC today and a wicked cold wind. DD's just off to the pictures to see 'Get Smart'. I can't imagine watching 'Get Smart' without Don Adams in it. How bizarre! =:-O

My Mum eats (shudder) banana/honey, banana/peanut butter and peanut butter/honey sandwiches. Eeeuuuww! AND she likes to eat banana on toast sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Eeeeuuuwwwer!

Another favourite of mine is a thin slice of yesterday's lamb roast on hot toatered bust (buttered toast) with salt and pepper. Yum!!!

I know the roasted salted type ..But never with vinegar ???? is this tasty ??? I like them as are in my salads !!!! mirjam

I think my few remaining brain cells would have garbled "buttered toast" into "tuttered boast". Reminds me of a spoonerism which is now a family joke - "teasted toecake". Bruce
