Yes and no. It is not jam as in Raspberry Jam, but it is strained so it is clear and looks like jelly. Since jelly is jello, jelly is what they call the clear jam.

Now that makes it clear as mud. If jelly is Jell-O, and jelly is clear jam, what would your call preserves??????

For real, I think one of the differences between what we call jelly and jam is that besides being clear, is that you add pectin to jelly and jam is often just fruit cooked down with sugar to a thicker consistency.

And if I'm correct, preserves usually has seeds.

What is PECTIN ????? OMG nothing needs pectin to be set into jam or jelly. Now that really is a disgusting habit invented this side of the pond - I made all the jams and jellies (and jellos) for my family and never used it ! True, with strawberries, it required some care (or experience) to make it set, but Pectin ??? Ickackpooeywhatnot!

Don't shoot the messenger. Even if said messenger butchered the English language and made her note pretty near unintelligible.

Jelly, like Sheena said, is clear Jam has small chunks of fruit in it Preserves has lots of big chunks of fruit.
