Old rocking chair

I was given an old rocking chair that belonged to my grandmother. The chair is probably 80+ years old and I love it. The upholstery is a beautiful (non busy) floral pattern. The problem is the upholstery is frayed on the arms and on the edge of the seat due to many years of use. I can't afford to have it reupholstered, but I hate throwing a blanket over it too. Anyone have suggestions on how I can have the chair out in the open so you can see it's beauty, but still protect the frayed sections? I don't sew and don't have a sewing machine so it would have to be a simple, no-sew concept.
