What type of chair do you stitch in?

I'd bring my stitching to the furniture store and decide that way! It's your comfortable position that counts. Mine could be totally different than yours!

Good thinking Cheryl. I usually curl up on my reclining loveseat, sometimes with the foot part up and others down and sometimes with my feet under me or on the hassock that sits in front. It's ok for me, but my friends think I'm nuts and say I look uncomfortable. Come to think of it--maybe I am nuts !!!

I'll definitely keep your idea in mind if I ever decide to replace this one.

Although I envy those who can curl up in recliners, I find a straight back is essential. One TV-watching chair is a lady-sized wing and the other is a Martha Washington, and with both I use small footstools. My no-fooling stitching station is an extra dining chair at a table in front of a south window. This is where I have my standing Ott lite, magnifier and needlework stand, and where I do stitching and nothin' but stitching.

I have a leather, upright, winged armchair, with a cushion for extra back support. I have used it in conjunction with my Lowery frame stand for MANY years, and don`t feel comfortable stitching any other way! I have a conductor`s stand (like a music stand only bigger and more solid) beside me, on which I prop my charts and lay scissors, pens, etc. so they`re conveniently to hand.

I stretch out on the couch (like I was going to take a nap), with both feet up and the arm of the couch, and a couple pillows, behind my upper back. I got into that habit when I needed to spend time with my bad knee propped up on pillows.

If I'm working in-hand, that works just fine. If I have a scroll frame, I have to put one knee up to prop the scroll against.

My main chair is a leather executive office chair I purchased at a used office furniture store. It has adjustable firmness, height, back, and arms. In the living room I have a low ladies armchair.

I stitch in a massaging, heating recliner with a book holder on the right arm. On the left arm is a stuffed cat designed to hold remotes that I got years ago. I have a screw pin in his head that holds my scissors. His arms are over his head with a pillow and my film canister with wet sponge fits perfectly in the space. His back feet hold two different sizes of pearl cotton, His ascot works perfectly to hold my needles. He is made of corduroy, so I can toss my threads up on him and they hold. Best investment I ever made! The real cat has plenty of room to sleep on my feet without getting in my way.

Thanks for the advice. I might look silly but at least I will be comfy. After reading all the posts -- I see that we all have our different comfy positions.

There's a store here that's got pretty much *everything* except groceries. Whenever I get my oil changed or have some other work done on my car, I bring my stitching and head to the furniture dept. I figure eventually I'll find something I really like! :) They've never said a word to me, other than, "Is there anything I can help you with?" I just explain I'm trying out furniture to see what works best. I'm sure (unless they're really snobby people) that they'd be happy to let you stitch anywhere in their store if there's a possible sale involved!
