OT: Bagel Biter

How long have these been around? I love bagels (cinnamon and raisin, best of all) but used to take my life in my hands (or hand) trying to slice them. Just for the hell of it I typed "Bagel cutter" into Ebay - and lo and behold, someone was selling them, imported from the USA!

How long have you lot been keeping quiet about these?

I must say I think of Victoria when I use it, as it`s called a "Bagel Biter". Remember when she once said "So BITE me?" LOLOLOL! At least I don`t need to ask someone to cut them for me any more.

Oh heavens -- they have been around forever -- way more than ten years, I am sure. You should know that if there's a shortcut to be taken or easier way to do something mundane then someone this side of the pond will have invented something to handle the situation -- LOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I wish they had one that would slice the bagel into thirds! The bagels from the local bagel shop are so thick, even sliced in half they're too thick for the toaster, so I slice 'em in thirds - which is often a challenge.

Best bagel for me, without a doubt, is the "everything" bagel. What my mom in New Jersey calls a "garbage" bagel, LOL! What I don't like is "sweet" in my bagels. I can handle cinnamon and raisin, but chocolate chip is just *wrong*.

How right you are! Much as I love chocolate, I hate ANYTHING with chocolate chips in - except, maybe, cookies. (I won`t say biscuits because I know that they mean something totally different to many of you!!!).

Good chocolate, like good scotch, should be enjoyed anytime. Have you thought of cutting the bagels into forths. Slice the bagel in two the old fashioned way, or if it fits in the bagel cutter, and then slice each half again. Sweet bagels are very big down south, not so much in the north.

I love a toasted poppy seed bagel with olive and pimento cream cheese. I can only have these with the girls because my DH thinks it foul and has convinced the children of that as well. Someday they'll see just how good it is!

I like toasted onion and poppy seed bagels - does anyone have any tempting ideas for filling? I only have those and toasted cinnamon and raisin ones!

I happen to like tuna fish salad those. Also the olive and pimento cream cheese. Lox spread. Almost any sandwich filling you like I suspect. Or a cheeseburger!

My dear departed FIL, who came from a family that owned the only bakery in town in Poland, and was a baker in a kosher bakery in Brooklyn, NY for about

50 years, must be doing loop de loops in his grave at the thought of chocolate raspberry bagels.

Having been brought up on bagels, I'm a purist and might allow poppy seeds, or onion or garlic, but sweets, never.

It doesn't sound bad, it's just not authentic. lol

ps-I don't care either. But, of course, I don't always follow needlework directions to the letter either. I even lick my floss, which I've been told over and over is a no no.

You make me want to jump in my car and head to Montreal. I could get and be first in line, there is always a line. Oh! have a lovely beagle right out of the oven. Sheena re you game. ?? A real bagle is hard to find these days, none east of Montreal in this country unless you make them yourself. A couple of stores here in Halifax import them from Montreal. And of course there is only ONE real bagel bakery in Montreal. Huge deep open front brick oven, long wooden paddles laden with bagels which have been plucked from boiling water slid into the oven where they are baked beside open coals. The texture, the taste, ah! heaven. Most bagels sold in shops are not even good imitations. Be adventurous ladies and make your own, well worth the work and you will never never eat those impostors again. Doen with the imposters, bring back the true, authentic bagel. Perhaps my grandson would enjoy helping me make some. He is two and a half. never to soon to get them interested in cooking Ruby
