OT: Bunnie's First Vet Visit, etc.

OK -- so we adopt Bunnie (Chunkybutt Cat) and her paperwork says she is 12#7oz. NOT -- took her to the vet today and she weighs in at FOURTEEN POUNDS -- that's 14#!!! Talk about a chunkybutt -- LOLOL! Good thing she is on kitty diet food. Other than be a chunkubutt, all is well and she doesn't need her shots until late April or early May :-). Also, this kitty who is supposed to not get along with other cats is having ho trouble at all. A few hissing matches between her & Cassie (Baby Cat) and that's about all. I was also told that she loves to be petted but will try to scratch &/or bite you (gently) if you stop. None of that is really happening. The first day she did try to put her claws on me when I was petting her so I put a stop to that and it hasn't happened again. Bonnie is a sweetheart and seems to get along famously with IvyJane (the Stealth Garbanzo Brain Kitty). I caught them sitting together on the runner in the upstairs landing, even. As soon as IvyJane saw me, she snuck into my bedroom (she likes to get under our bed) and sat just inside the door. She allowed me to come within about 5 feet and I bent over and we just looked at each other while I told her how pretty she is and how lucky I am to be her Mom. She stood there for a good long while and then turned around and slowly went under the bed. All in all, I am quite lucky to have both of these kitties. IvyJane REALLY needs the time to adjust and come out of her shell in a safe and loving environment. Bunnie just needs someone to brush her and provide her with toys, lots & lots of toys -- LOL! I understand about the differences in cats! Mikey (Fat Cat) weighed in at 12# and the vet said that was a good weight for her because she was a BIG cat. She ate less than either of the other cats who were both in the 10# range, smaller than Mikey (length, height, etc.) and ate a lot more! For those two, the vet said they were a bit overweight and to cut out any treats. We did that and both kitties went down to about 9# and stayed there. Bunnie, OTOH, is just plain FAT! She's a long kitty so will likely be OK at about 10#. When she was spayed back in late April, she weighed in at 12# so she's gained 2# in 8 months -- a lot for a cat! Of course, she was a new mom cat and spent most of her time in a cage getting no exercise! Hopefully now that she has a whole house to run around in (and she is doing just that), she'll lose some of her "baby fat". I'm glad that you quit trying to get Bucket to lose some weight and living to be 18 just showed he was healthy! You were and are a good cat mom :-). CiaoMeow >^;;^<
