OT: I don't know

With Richardson out of the race, I am more and more convinced that Obama is the best of what's left. I think there are Republican candidates with more experience and more decisiveness, but I don't like their politics.

Clinton keeps saying she has more experience, but Obama served 8 years in the Illinois state legislature and that counts for more in my book than being first lady.

So, yeah, in my book, he does have what it takes. That doesn't mean he'll win and in the end, most Democrats (like most Republicans) will want the candidate that they think can actually take the office.

Oh please. Clinton thinks she can win BECAUSE she's female. That's as bad as people who won't hire someone because they're X. I'd love to see a woman president, but I don't want it to be Hillary Clinton. And if that makes me a bad woman or not a feminist, shoot me.

Actually, I agree with you; of all the Democrats, Richardson would have been my pick (had I been a Democrat). Hillary's "experience" to my mind is somewhat negligible. The White House years I totally count out. Prior to that some of her legal dealings leave a nasty taste in my mouth, regarding ethics and honesty. Her years in the Senate............well, if BIll had not been the ex-President, and Hillary, the ex-first lady, I gravely doubt she would have been elected. The Dems have used her as a figurehead.

In the end, the most electable candidate will win.It is a shame that in these times and with round-the-clock intense media coverage, the candidates have handlers, like trained animals, and have to say the "right" thing to please whatever crowd they are in.

In my mind the whole 2-3 year election process over here is an outrageously expensive theatrical show.

There, I have said my piece, and tomorrow I will go to vote for McCain ( yup, he is the most electable Republican, in my opinion).

I suppose, coming from a different culture, I see no surprises there, it was always thus amongst the mandarins. Often both parties shut their eyes. What was the advice Victoria gave her daughter, "Close your eyes and think of England" lol

Yes, and Obama has been Senator from IL. So I'm seeing two terms as state legislator and one as federal Senator against two terms as federal Senator. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I'd say Obama is actually the more experienced.

I don't blame Bill on Hillary. I think that Bill was a good president. HOWEVER, I also think that she stayed married to him because of her own political motives. I disapprove of that and I disapprove of the role model that she became by staying married to him once it was clear that he is the philanderer he is. I don't think that you stand by your man at all costs and I don't think that's a good example to set for young women today.

Beyond that, her politics are too close to the center for my taste. I'm much farther left than she is and I don't like the fact that she supported going into Iraq.

AND I resent being told that as a woman, I should vote for her. That's just bunk.

That's a fair reason and yes, she was wrong, very wrong on that.

I would not condone that either, I want her to win on politics not sex. However, I do notice that when women are nearer the top, their sex does go against them, I don't feel you would deny that either.

Yeah - and she'll use that excuse too - if she loses. (I hope I hope I hope)

She's older (and hopefully wiser), plus her longer experience in politics (even if it was behind the scenes).

As I said, I think our American neighbours have a tough decision. No one knows for sure how an individual will perform as President until the person is actually in the job. Some people rise to the occasion -Truman comes to mind.

Thanks to those of you who inquired about Jim. This is a cut and paste from a personal email I sent, but it is the current situation. I just got home from the hospital. (Mon 2.30pm)

"Jim was feeling poorly last week; he called the Drs office Thursday, and they worked him in on Friday morning. He had pains in the lower chest area, so to be on the safe side, the Dr arranged for a direct admission later that day. The good news is that it was not connected with the heart. The bad news is that it is a recurrence of acute pancreatitis, which he had two years ago. He is still in there, and today is grumpy, threatening to leave, etc, so I KNOW he is on the mend! Before he was just lying there, acquiescing to anything, and partially sedated with Dilaudid.

He wants to get out today, but I told him he may as well accept that it will NOT be before tomorrow."

I hope he heals quickly.

I have no problem with Obama. I'd rather see Nancy Pelosi as president than Clinton.

I'd argue that Truman didn't rise to the occasion very well, but I wasn't alive then, so what do I know.

I'm definitely no expert but the way I learned it was that he inherited an office he didn't want or remotely think he would ever hold, at a time when the world was at war, and he did what he and many others thought was right to bring peace.

I'm not going to comment on whether what he did was moral or the only thing to do, but I still admire his courage.
