You know, just because a person (I nearly said guy) assumes office does not mean that all the nation's ills or victories during his/her term is his fault. It takes many years to build things up, and many to go the other way. There is no magic clock that says " you are now sworn in...everything for the next four years is your fault, or your gain".

I think we are back to the media and handler thing again.

Like some want a "flat tax". ( I think it is a workable idea, but won't be truly workable for at least 10-30 years). Do you realise how *many* laws will have to be changed to accomplish that?? I have worked with all the IRS books containg the tax code...there are many of them, all with literally hundreds of flimsy pages.

All IRS does is interpret the wishes of Congress into a workable practical way, using forms.

I know this isn't the current debate, but what has happened in the past administrations, will reflect on the current administration.

So don't blame Bush for all these things. Clinton allowed them to happen, just as he gained from Bush the Elder's term of office.

I don't think all of us are ABSOLUTELY committed to one particular party. Have a preference yes, but a commitment is a different thing. I also suspect and hope that some of us would cross party lines if the better candidate was on the opposite team.

Make it Scotland and I'll come too as we may have to elect a government this year and if St Harper gets in again with a majority, I will need to re-immigrate.

Yes, but you can't have it both ways. If Clinton gained from GHWB, then so to did GWB gain from Clinton.

What I blame Bush for is the war in Iraq and I don't think that was Clinton's fault at all. I think it rests wholly with the current administration. I think what GHWB did in Iraq was the correct thing to do, but I think his son got it wrong. And perhaps Clinton should have leaned on Saddam a little harder, but hindsight is always 20/20 isn't it?

The economy, that's a lot harder, because, as you say, things carry over and it's hard to know who did things right and who didn't.

I think that GHWB was actually a decent president. I can't say that about GWB and I do lay most of his failings at his own doorstep, not at Clinton's. By which I don't in the least mean to imply that Clinton didn't make his share of mistakes.
