If you haven't noticed the special google icon today, you might not remember it's the anniversary of the lunar landing. Google has a special web page:

Ah - and yesterday's puzzle on MyWay was the LEM. I ought to do today's puzzle.

What do you remember of that day? I so wanted to be an astronaut.

Cheryl

What I remember most about that day was my husband's reaction to the whole thing. He worked for General Instrument at that time and when Grumman got overwhelmed with work they job shopped some of the components to the LEM to GI and Mel was lucky enough to be in the engineering group that did that work.

When it landed so neatly on the surface of the moon my usual quiet, rather introspective husband, whooped and leaped in the air like a little kid. It was thrilling to see so much excitement both from the wonder of the landing itself and his happiness at its success.

We were living at Patrick AFB at the time, and had watched the Apollo go up from our front yard. My husband (DDH#1)worked at Cape Canaveral (US Navy), and they watched from the roof of the building.

I got the children up out of bed, and we all watched the moon landing together.Mike would have been 4 1/2, and Marcella 7. I don't think either one remember it now, but I still have the newspapers of the time. It was neat being at the Cape during that era, because the astronauts stayed at the Holiday Inn, and socialized with the rest of us.

Jim (H#2) met Gene Cernan when Jim was Assistant Air Attache in Bucharest. He loves to recount how they had a scavenger hunt, and the US Ambassador and an Astronaut were searching for crotchless panties! Of course, this was all behind the iron Curtain in those days.

my father was a design engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft which made the helicopters that plucked the astronauts and their space capsules out of the ocean after splashdown. Watching the liftoffs were mandatory! the 1st lunar landing was about 6 months after my father died. I remember my mother waking me up to watch the lunar landing on tv.... Lisa

Oh I missed that feature
