OT: Is everyone OK?

Damn, we had snow yesterday and now it has snowed relentlessly since lunchtime ! Too much. Where is Al Gore ??? I want to give him global warming !

Nothing here in Missouri except crazy weather. 1"+ of rain yesterday, cold today with some slushy stuff, but not enough to amoung to anything - although north of us got up to 6" of snow!

That would be me. Doc's office called this morning cancelling all their appointments.

We got the dreaded ice underlayment, too.

Where are the tornados? It's clear as a bell here in ND and it's even above 0! :)

Unfortunately, these storms may well be a symptom of global warming. The more energy that is poured in, the more energy out. We are having more snow this winter due to the lakes not being frozen, and the large amount of warm moist air coming up from the gulf. When it hits the cold front from the north - voila - snow. The same storm that hit the southern US stretches all the way north to Ontario, and is due to hit you tomorrow. Remember, the effects of global warming are not just increased temperatures - they are more violent weather.

Spoke with my daughter in KY. The tornado did a bit of damage to her car.......seems her car, and the garage surrounding it, both flew off into the unknown. DD said the concrete where the garage was is as clean as if you swept it. She said nothing else was touched. All the trees are still standing.

I am so thankful that it was that, and not the house and her!!

My mom, in north central Arkansas, spent bout half an hour underneath a fire engine. She was working as a poll judge during the primaries when the power went out. Then things got really scary. My mom's not especially spry, so if it got bad enough for her to roll under a fire truck, it had to be _bad_. A tornado did pass within about half a mile of my parents' home. There's a lot of damage in their community, and when I talked to my dad this afternoon, rumor of one fatality in their town, but they're okay. Now power, but thye have a backup system for their heating so they won't freeze. It'll be days vefore they get pwoer back as a long stretch of power poles must be completely replaced -- they were all snapped off.

Glad your Mom`s OK - but she`ll be able to dine out on THAT story for ages! Rolled under a fire engine, indeed. Very sensible of her - they take some shifting, even in a tornado, I should think.

Looking at out garage, we could do with a small tornado here!

Spring seems to have sprung here - loads of crocuses, violets and snowdrops and a few daffodils out. Masses moore daffodils in bud. Birds, frogs and newts think it`s Spring, judging from the activity in the garden.

Did you know that we have more tornados here than anywhere on earth? Just not such BIG ones as you do. (Thank goodness!) Mind you, we`ve certainly had more damaging ones than we used to get in the past.

We haven`t seen snow for years - but up North, where the warm air meets the cold, they`ve had some pretty bad snow. It has only got as far south as the Pennines, although dd Jane swore she actually counted THREE snowflakes here last week!!!

We`re certainly having more extremes of weather these days. I KNOW it`s a natural cycle, but the whole point is that the cycle is definitely speeding up to what it used to do. The changes come in a few years rather than a few centuries, now.

Yes - I agree, and my apologies, it's just that I hear so much denial of global warming when the signs are now so obvious that even they should be able to see it. There was an excellent article recently in (IIRC) "Scientific American" showing that the changes are even accelerating - more than the climatologists originally estimated.

Further apologies :) - we're sending you more snow!

The DDDDH is out shoveling the snow, so than I can go to my Guild meeting. As a reward, I have a batch of pancakes ready to hit the pan as soon as he comes in (he hasn't had breakfast yet).

Here in Baltimore it was unseasonably warm yesterday - over 70 degrees; a record - and we normally do have a few of those days in February that push the bulbs and forsythias into thinking it's spring. Probably in about a week I'll see the beginnings of the bulbs popping up, and as I walk by I tell them, "Get down! It's not time yet!" I'm always amazed that they can just stop progress on a dime. Sometimes they get halfway up, and just stop in their tracks when it gets cold and wait for it to warm up, then they resume as though nothing happened!
