OT: It just figures!

Ouch! I really wish I could take aspirin. It does work best on certain pains and swelling. But better to skip unless nothing else is present.

Sadly I may have done it to my self. I had constant stress headaches and just took 2-3 doses a day while in the situation (bad boss). Then I started having this strange rash and bruising from the least little bump. Doctor told me no more aspirin. It took forever for the bruising to stop.

I've got a problem with bruising and very fragile platelets because of one of the meds I must take and the fact that I have little or no fat layer under my skin. But even with that my doctor has advised me to take an 81 mg (the equivalent of a baby aspirin) every day. He feels that every woman should be taking that to prevent one kind of heart disease.

None of my doctors seem to be concerned about the bleeding problem since it is really just on the surface and not in the veins or arteries.

I have so rarely taken anything that I find the aspirin works. I do bruise easily and I don't heal like I used to if I break my skin, but that may be plain old age I guess. I just know, no aspirin before bed and by 2 a.m. hips and knees are killing me. If I leave the aspirin for days, the knees start to swell. For awhile I was taking Celebrex but I was sure glad I reverted to aspirin long before the news broke.

I dread those days, but I know they are coming!

And me....I'm allergic to ALL NSAIDS, from aspirin all the way up to vioxx -- and that's becoming more and more common. I wonder if it's from over-use.

I did say, if you are able to take it. I wasn't talking about children either.

Well if that was the case, I would not be able to consume aspirin.

I'm not saying it happens to everyone -- I've just had it happen to me, and my doc says he's seeing it more and more.

Some people are more fortunate.

I don't know what I would do without it, too much pain to sleep.

I have started taking two Tylenol 8hr tabs at night. The pains have been vague, hitting different parts of this old body at will. With these pills( I buy generic) I do get a good night's sleep. Gillian

I agree -- I have a dreadful time finding something I can take. Tylenol doesn't work well at all. Sometimes I just hurt. Badly.

My doc did give me ambien for sleep, which I use when it all gets unbearable.

Brenda Lewis had some very interesting things to say about Re: OT: It just figures!:

I avoid aspirin near/during my period. Heavier flow I do NOT need.

Lucille ! If you have a bleeding problem , Aspirin isn`t the best thing for you , since it delutes the blood. and is taken also to prevent clotting. mirjam

Could be -- you build up tolerance to many medications from over-use, and they don't work any more, so it sounds reasonable that you could also become allergic.

For me, NSAIDs don't help much, because fibromyalgia is non-inflammatory pain. They quiet the inflammatory arthritis in my hands and knee, but do nothing for the other 90%.

I spend a fortune on ThermaCare, and if I didn't have anything better to do all day, I would spend hours in a hot bath, which also provides pain relief (and cheaper). But Toshiba does not recommend taking my computer into the bathtub for some reason, so if I want to work, I have to get out.
