Here's the link for anyone who wants to know the truth, from people who know me, and have for a long time:

Gee, I completely forgot anyone had those laying tools! I still make and sell them. I use mine every day. I hope to be able to stitch once treatment starts. Last time I couldn't see well, so that curtailed that, but I'm going to see my ophthalomologist to try and stave off the blurred vision.

Thanks for your concern. V

I hope your eye doc is able to help you with the vision thing. There is nothing more irritating than fluctuating vision. I know from experience how badly it can affect a person.

Good luck with getting lenses (or whatever) that help! {{{{{{ }}}}}}}

Fibromyalgia is NOT PSYCHOSOMATIC.

-- Jere

YES IT IS. Do you know the meaning of the word?

So why was I not entitled to say I was bored with your flu, your sprained ankle, your problems etc etc ad infinitum ? Where is the difference?

I was not even 'talking' to you when you chimed in with a diatribe about how I was lying about Cleveland, perpetuating a myth (the myth which is well known is clearly where I heard it) because everyone knows it has the best museum and the best restaurant because 'dude' says so. etc.

I'm not having a bad day, contrary to what you are imagining, I won a bridge game this morning, am off out shortly tonight, I'm having a GREAT DAY - loving every minute of it. I am not in the habit of kicking animals - I'll leave that to you. Maybe you need to get out more, it might do you good, take you out of yourself and all your problems.

Vic - this is not how Buddhists behave.

Those poor people in Indiana and Kentucky now added to that list. They lost everything, but when interviewed they were focused on what they didn't lose, their lives, their loved ones and on rebuilding. You could tell they didn't want our pity. A bit of help from FEMA or the Red Cross, sure, but pity no!

Yup, I sure do -- and I have fibro/cfs. Have had for over 13 years. In addition to all the pain and suffering that comes with those illnesses, I'm allergic to ALL NSAIDS, which makes pain management a problem. I'm not here to talk about that though I don't mind when other people do.

Do you know the meaning of the word courtesy?

I don't know you at all. I'm sure you must have some redeeming points, most of us do. But you pop on here periodically only to criticize and spew, and it's tiresome.

You criticize someone else for talking about her illnesses, and yet that's virtually the only thing I've ever heard out of you, other than criticism of others and what a wonderful Buddhist you are.

I'm sorry you're going through a hard time. I've been there too. In fact, most of us have, in some form or another.

I'm here to be talk needlework, and to be friendly. I tried, a while back,to be friendly to you. It didn't work out too well. I doubt you even remember. That's fine. I just move on when I meet what an old book called "irregular people." I grew up in a family like that, and made a conscious decision not to spend the rest of my life like that.

I hope things go well for you. I wish you could find a way to be more positive about things, at least in what you share. But how you live your life is your choice. I just wish you could give the courtesy of that choice to others.

I am repeating myself here but, it still seems to be appropriate:

"this is typical Sheena pot stirring. Come in, blame others for your own nastiness and/or lies and then pretend you are the one on the high road. "

What does it say about you that attacking me over and over all day long is part of you having a "GREAT DAY-loving every minute of it"? I'm thinking it's not saying nice things about YOU at all!

Caryn

Not how they WANT to behave, maybe - they can only try! Unless you`re the Dalai Llama, very few can aspire to perfection - all they can to is try to get there. That was a cheap shot.

Having read Vic's explainations about her use of this word in the past, I think she only means that it's a disease that responds to your mental mood. If you keep a positive attitude, it's easier to deal with, gives you less grief, than it does if you focus on it and let your pain from it be the focus of your life.

I think there are a lot of diseases in which this is true. I know that my great-uncle's luekemia was less painful for him when he started on antidepressants and was able to get out of bed in the morning and lead a more normal life than he could while depressed.

Nobody is saying fibromyalgia's not a real disease, Vic has it too, so has a much better grasp of what it is than I do. I'm just saying what I've observed myself, about how our bodies tend to follow the lead of our minds.

As with migraines - in many cases those are affected by stress, or even just by boredom with what your life is like. A change in life, a different interest can change the sequence. I NEVER had a migraine during an emergency - I got them when everything had got back to normal and was running smoothly. Similar situation.

By the way, if I wanted a day off work and pleaded a "Migraine" - ten to one I got a REAL one the next day! LOL!

I feel sorry for the people in the mountains in Pakistan. Understandably their president has suggested that the money for aid might have been more forthcoming had they been Westerners.

On the other hand, maybe the World`s pockets are getting a bit empty? There`s only so much you can do. Our own local children`s hospice is losing money it expected from the lottery funds (it has been sent to overseas disaster funds) so they are having to make several members of staff redundant and cutting down on their services to terminally ill babies/children. A tragedy to the families concerned.

Mine are less severe now that I'm working. Or at least I'm so busy that I can manage to force the pain into the background better than I could at home with less to distract me from it.

Mine are easy to link to my hormones last week I had one that lasted two days, still went to work, was just a bit less sharp than usual! I haven't missed a day of work yet, even with the migraines, cold and sore ankle of last week. I'm more than a little proud of the fact that I didn't cave into the temptation to crawl into bed until I felt better.

I have had the same experience with stress, and how once it's finished that's when the migraine hits. Given the stress I'm under with work right now, I'm trying not to think of what might be lurking when things get settled! lol

Oh, how sad. Hospices do such great work, with so little appreciation. I try to give to my local one at least once a year.

It's true that the world in general is pretty much disastered out. Tsumani, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods. It's been a Hellish year on this planet. We all want to give to the victims of each, but we also need to pay our own bills to keep our own roofs over our heads, food in our own mouths, etc. Money only goes so far, even for people in more affluent countries. Affluence usually means higher prices on necessities, sadly.

Caryn

My personal experience is that a positive attitude when I am in excruciating pain is just plain denial. That doesn't work for me.

When it works for others, I applaud them. Truly. Whatever interrupts the pain and depression is great

It just doesn't work for me.

And I agree with Pat P that none of us achieves perfection. But carping constantly at others doesn't usually help either.

Honestly, I have no idea why I entered this discussion. I've made a sincere effort to stay out of things like this on this newsgroup. I intend to return to this position in the future, and just stay out of it.

I suppose tried commenting because of this: I used to subscribe to a listserv that had savage flame wars. However, nowhere during any of those was there the kind of meanness and viciousness of spirit I have seen here today.

It just saddens me.

I don't think it has to do with religion at all. Some of the stingiest of spirit I have ever observed were avowed devout Christians. If I recall, Ghandi had something to say about that. What I think is that it has to do with personality and character and personal decision making.
