The school isn't the one doing the selling - it is the PTA/PTO trying to cover expenses. It still frosts me that the school budget doesn't cover the playground equipment. But will give the high school music director a bonus every year they make a bowl parade.

Congratulations to your daughter. Nice to see someone get a well-deserved promotion, along with all the trimmings. Just curious, though; do you mean she was promoted over/instead of him(he was her boss and now she's his?), or that he no longer works there at all? And what about the female ex-boxer? Taping boxes, perhaps? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

Funny, they said they were doing it a few years back and still had pledge breaks the whole month.
That is definitely one of the nails in the coffin! I figure there is at least a 3 to 1 ratio of "clerical help" to administration.
Funny how often that happens.
My local pet peeve is the "ours has to be bigger/better" - the library, the town offices, the new police station, the talk of new fire houses. Even though projected enrollments based on the elementary schools and available vacant land for housing, showed that the high school might have a 3-5 year peak, it would then start dropping back to manageable levels. No - built a $50 million addition/expansion, built a field house and a media center so the high school could a TV station on the local cable channel.( but John Q Public can't make use of it). It's gorgeous, but it 10 years it will be half empty.
And then there are the "services" that are offered. Instead of sending the three "handicap X" kids to nearby city where they have a great program for handicap X, they insist on hiring multiple specialists and equipping each school to handle it, even though the three are triplets living in the north end of town. Or reading specialists, that only use one "method" to teach reading even if it doesn't work for all reading disabilities or my other favorite, phonics readiness for kindergarteners in September - how about we make sure they know the alphabet first.
There is a reason I'm really thinking about going back to work and sending the kids to private schools.

Does anyone here want to switch places with me? It's 10:42 pm and the power just came back AGAIN about 1/2 hour ago. It was out for most of the afternoon AGAIN. The cell phone is still not working, the lights have flickered several times AGAIN and I'm not a happy camper. I suppose I'm lucky because some people in this area are being told that they may not have any electricity till Nov. 15th.
To hell with Florida Power and Light, aka (florida promises and lies) to hell with T-Mobile and to hell with whoever is in charge of hurricanes. Not the weather reports or the meteorologists, the weather.
I guess I'll spend tomorrow morning throwing out most of the stuff in my refrigerator.

Actually, our PTA does hit up the local businesses for certain things. One office supply place gives the teachers in all schools a 20% discount on anything they buy and has a policy of dropping off pencils and such to the schools for classroom use. And a hardware store donated materials and equipment for a teaching garden (I sure had fun helping with that one). And a coupe of times year, Dunkin Donuts drops off a ton goodies and coffee to each teachers lounge. BTW - we could make a lot of teachers much happier just by upgrading some of those.
I'd rather we have the schools buy the computers and have some one donate the maintenance.

Stitching therapy is a good thing! Stashing therapy is also a very good thing....and the Stitching Post is having a double punch sale in November!

Lol ! She has been made the Manager for Sales (that was a large part of his job) and he has been demoted to Operations - I think they hoped he would quit but he hasn't so far. Joanna is now making more than him and reporting directly to Montreal which is a further slap to him. It's difficult because you can't fire someone out of hand in Canada, they have to have three warnings in writing telling them they are not up to scratch and must improve etc. She thinks he will not throw his hand in as everyone in the shipping business here is laughing their heads off so there is no possibility of a job with another company.
So she is ahead of him but the two of them will have no contact. Previously any of her emails could be vetted by him, but that is no longer so, but she can see his. She is not sure what will become of the ex boxer, presumably he many want her to resign as she is now doing part of his job and taking up his space. She is fairly certain he will have been told the company does not sanction clandestine behaviour like that and the affair stops or she must leave. It will be interesting to see what develops, any other man would have quit instantly.
I was just happy that having seen during my working days, how that sort of situation generally worked out against the woman, either Joanna or the boxer would have been fired and the man told to watch out in future, that some things have changed and that even in such a male orientated business her company was prepared to let her go ahead and fulfill her potential. She will bust a gut for them now whereas he saw his managers job as the excuse to goof off. I'll let you know what becomes of the ex boxer lol

I definitely don't want to change, though I would if it gave you some time off from your woes.
You get good and mad and let some steam off, at least that will make you feel a bit better lol I'd like to see 90lbs of rage dealing with FP&L !

Too true. They were on about Wilma hitting us here as she raged up the coast but in the end we just had a bad nor'easter. Someone on local radio made the comment that weather forecasters are the only people who have a job where they can be wrong over and over again and not be fired for it !!

The school supply lists just seem to get longer and longer and, as Jenn said, include things like tissues etc. which are NOT for your child, but for the classroom. How can a school get away with not supplying chalk and pencils????

I really don't know - there are reams of colored paper, but no pencils in the supply room. There are white board markers in every color except black. No white board cleaner though, that what those baby wipes are for.
I've sent in everything from pencils to wipes to clean the desks.

What a great idea. I think I'll start doing that from now on. It sure has the same 50/50 chance of being absolutely correct.

If someone else will shovel it and get my car ready to go, I'm fed up enough to take you up on your offer. I used to love snow until I couldn't get my car off an ice patch for nearly 4 weeks.

Even I'm not going to fight with them. They had the audacity to increase our rates by approximately $40 a month recently, with the excuse that they needed to do the repairs from last years hurricanes. Obviously they didn't do the repairs very well.
No one seems to be able to get a decent answer from them and they don't seem to give a damn. Just wait, they'll raise us again and we'll just pay like the good sheep we are because there's no where else to go.
But thanks for the good words.

Yes agreed, except we have Shubenacadie Sam here lol I can't understand why he disappears if he sees his shadow, after all one would think that was a good sign.
