OT: Just saying Hi

Just wanted to pop in, say hello, etc.

I'm in the not much time to spare mode - with school, doing a bunch of ER rotations, starting overnight ambulance shifts at the Rescue Squad I joined, and working in the LNS.... But, will be back at least during semester break, with some time.

Anyhow - hope all is well - saw lots of familiar names when I did a quick browse. Was listening to CBC last night - all the TAZER controversy, so of course thought of our Canadian crew.

But, I have been stitching. At least pieces for my classes that I'm teaching at the shop. Motif Madness (canvas) by Debbee's Designs (but did totally different colorways), and the sweetest Victoria Sampler "Chives" little sachet for the "beyond beginning" - getting folks onto linen from Aida. And some samples from some Euro designers, one called "Cavallo" from a French designer (very impressionistic sketch), and a sampler from "Der Feine Faden" - with Horses worked in.

Well, again - just couldn't resist a quick hi, miss having time to see what everyone is up to, and enjoy the chat.

You couldn't just say hello, could you? Had to enable while you were at it!

I had not heard of Debbee's Designs and was quite content. Now, you made me google it and I have lust in my heart for Motif Madness and Black Magic. Thanks!

Glad all is well with you!

Tee hee - sorry - but it is traditional here to enable...If you'd like, I'll send you the list of colorways I did for the Motif Madness. Eventually the finished pieces I'll put on the shop website. But, I did them based around the Caron Watercolours main thread - one is "Cardinal # 219" - the Christmas set (with green or blue as 2ndary), the next is "Burnt Toast #062" - gorgeous earth tones - using WDW Terra Cotta as the primary copper, and a lovely rich GAST Acorn for the 2ndry, then there are Jewel Tones - done with "Elderberry Wine, #192, with WDW Blue Topaz & WDW Purple Majesty, then finally, neutrals using "Rose Quartz" as the base. It took a long time to figure them all out. But the piece is lots of fun - the class did ask for a

4th session, and honestly, it might take a 5th. Lots of Jean Hilton stitches - goes fast once you practice them. Black Magic is really nice, the shop owner has us keep a lot of charted canvas, so we have a lot of Debbee's things, just got her newest, as well as Laura J. Perrin, Donna Taylor, and other similar ones you might like (I can enable all the way).

I think that for the continuing sort of intermediated to more advanced canvas, I'm going to do "Twister" by Patricia Spencer - as a 6-8 month class (we'll see). I have to think up some colorways though the original is stunning. Several folks already asked me to do this one.

going to do an Orna Willis piece, "Gayle" - which is a little lessdifficult, but full of fun techniques as well

I don't have to come up with colors! Now I just have to find a piecefor the "beyond beginning - 2" . I'm looking at some of the littleElizabeth's Designs. Like having folks learn a couple of new stitchesbesides working their XS technique. And, I've promised to design a "frameweight" as a good canvas class - some stitch variety, and we'll do a longrectangular one.

Thanks, Linda. It's crazy, but well.

Hi, Ellice!

I've been wondering where you've been hiding out...just super-busy, as usual! Sounds like you've been actually DOING a lot of needlework, while some of us talk about it more than we actually have time to DO it!

cheers, Sue

I think most of the country is mortified, it was yet another tragedy with these damn things.

Nice to see you coming past.

I'm sure the shop owner would be happier if I was finishing a lot of it, but I know that I have so many pieces being worked on I just grab something. The worst part - keeping up the "standards" - as a lot of them spend the day on display in the shop - to show how to use some frame or stand, etc. But, I'm trying. Last night - even worked on the baby sweater (knitting) for the friends due Feb 3.... Fortunately the newborn size one is done, except for final seaming. Now, my Infectious Disease paper - that's another story.

I don't like thinking about it. And I have to do a bunch of ambulance time in the next few weeks ....so I can do my cert test in Jan.

Yup, it's been interesting listening to AIH - it's on here pretty late. But they've been playing the call-in lines with commments as well. Intereesting interview with the CEO of TAZER. It's a conundrum, to say the least.

Thanks. Ellice

They're both really nice. Just be forewarned that her canvas chart booklets take a bit of time to sort through. She gives you a place to write down what you're using versus her colors, thread, but you'll spend some time doing the matrix of what thread is used where, etc. But, the stitch diagrams run from very good to a bit confusing - as in if you've not done it before you might have to think hard to find the starting place, or do some research. And the occasional not mentioning what is being used . But, on the whole - the diagrams are large and clear, and the pieces are gorgeous. She also seems to be using a lot of newer threads - I think she must be trying different products - there's overdyed rayon from Valdani for example, or Presencia thread. In Motif Madness, it was so hard for the shop even to get the rayon ...plus, well, it's rayon... That I subbed the Waterlilies overdyed silk instead, to have something with the sheen. Looks good.

So, let me know what you ladies are going for!!!!

So happy to have done some enabling, Ellice

Hye, there - pot, kettle, black.... So where are you, Gill? Are we going to see you in the DC vicinity anytime soon?

I do get to see Donna regularly (poor thing, did a fabulous job helping me with an event job this past weekend and likely may never speak to me again). And talk to Cheryl - we have that hockey bond thing going.

I'm trying to fit in the "pop-in" time now.

Sorry - can't accept. This one is on West Nile Virus. Plus I have another one due - with a presentation - on something relevant to EMS. So, I'm doing it on sports injury resvues - specifically - the helmet issue and appropriate handling of the patient (go figure). Hoping to snag an interview with the CAPS head trainer. And 4 more Drug short papers (2 pages) for pharmacology.
