Patty Larkin - a folk rocker with amazing guitar skills and a talent for words Greg Brown - another folkie with a huge deep voice Bill Morrissey - (personal fave - I used to sell him beer and ciggies way back when in NH) one more folkie - a growly kind of voice with a trememdous talent for songwriting (bonus - Greg and Bill did an album together) Jem - I fell in love with the song "them"

Oh, oh, oh, I love Alison Moyet, from her work with Yaz, all the way through Raindancing. Then I sort of stopped buying music for a while.

My most recent purchases, updating from tape to CD are Melissa Etheridge's first two albums (love Brave and Crazy) and then "Boys in the Trees" and "Another Passenger" from Carly Simon. Decided I had to have this stuff on CD. I also love Maura O'Connell, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Toni Childs, Suzanne Vega, and Joan Armatrading. Gonna go get me some Jane Olivor on CD soon, too.

The Dixie Chicks new CD is great -- I especially like Lullaby -- it was the theme music for the seasson finale of the tv show Medium.

Yeah - it's not a must have, unless you really like them.

If you like the radio play - IMHO - this is a definite good get. Has some variety on it - from a little more rock sound to the song Texican Style - which is kind of latino rock-a-billy for lack of a better description. Seriously - I was dancing around the house while this disc was on the first time - it just had me grinning.

Me too, I think I still have a couple of the oldies on vinyl - but am sure that I have Raindancing, and at least 2 others on disk. Sometimes I think it's time of life WRT how some music hits you. Certainly was for me with some of her songs.

In that vain - Marti Jones - her work from the 90s. If you like early Alison Moyet - you'd probably like her. Interesting lyrics - ala Alison Moyet, Suzanne Vega - but with a more country rock type of music. I really like her stuff from about 10-15 years ago, was a bit disappointed with her most recent. IIRC her husband is a producer/musician & we saw them on Austin City limits a while back.

Melissa Etheridge is one of my idols. Love her stuff - go thru periods where it seems a disk is living in the car, etc. We must have some pretty similar music tastes. Interesting to find new artists, and talk with our friends about this.

I think I like it. 'Course our boy is older now, so is more melancholy in his tone.There are several that have the same flavor as stuff off the "Against The Wind" album. His voice is still just as sexy as ever, so I'll always say it's good. LOL There's a duet with Kid Rock that doesn't have my teeth grinding, either.

About that Toby Keith song... well, it's really just a funny song, but is a bit unkind to us fluffy girls. Now, if you can find Trace Adkins doing "Arlington", I want ya to tell me that that voice doesn't send chills down your spine. (Course, the fact that he's 6' whatever AND has long hair doesn't have a thing to do with my attraction... LOL) Tegan

I believe you. Trace Adkins, eh? Whatever works for you - I used to have a long hair bias - even got DH to grow his. But, he really caught some grief reffin' - with the hair hanging out of the helmet, and he really prefers shorter. So, our compromise length is okay, and I get to see his really nice ringlets - which he doesn't appreciate, but I do. Never been a fan of really short, buzzed hair. But, it takes all kinds.

I'll be looking for some Trace Adkins to give a listen - heading to iTunes shortly!

Yep, and I like _Alf_ even better: "Invisible" finally taught me to quit getting into relationships that made me want to sing along. But I think my all time favorite is still "Only You" from the Yaz album _Upstairs at Eric's_

I like Alf about as much. But, the songs on Raindancing seem to have hit me at the time when I was living in France, and coming back to DC every so often. A certain timeliness of emotions, etc. "Only You" is a great song, as is "Invisible" . But, then there's "Wishing you were Here" - the all time long-distance romance song.

Geez, now I have to find the boxes and boxes of CDs, before I go nutty on iTunes buying singles, etc. Good choices, Brat!
