I picked up a book at the library last week by Deborah Grabien, and am thoroughly enjoying it. It's one in the "haunted ballad" series, in which there's a supernatural mystery embedded in a British folk ballad. It gives a slight twist to the mystery genre: Rather than being a "who/how" mystery, it's a "what/where/why" mystery, with a ghost story that's not particularly scary or past credulity. I'm halfway through "Cruel Sister," which dates back to the court of Henry VIII (so there's a historic component, too) and also checked out another. But I really want to get my hands on "Matty Groves," since that song is a favorite of ours and I know it really well. (DD could sing the whole thing through when she was four! Murder and mayhem...that could explain a lot.)
