While I might be a republican, I have never claimed to be nor have I ever voted (I don't believe) Republican. There's a BIG difference.

I thought it was the Republicans who threw out poor old King George ??

Those would be republicans.

If it has a capital letter, it refers to the political party. If it has a small letter, it refers to the political leaning. McCain is a democrat, but not a Democrat.

Oh, c'mon - she did add a human element and bring out of the closet the foibles of the Royals. And did do a lot of work for the anti-land mine group and some other charities. But, as with many people who become perceived as so significant beyond belief - she was a media darling, and, well......That said, I probably agree more with you than others. But, no one should have to die in a horrible crash because of paparazzi.

I was well aware of their foibles without Diana - her own family is not so foible-free either !

And did do a lot of work for the anti-land mine

They have just finished (yes just finished) a hugely expensive enquiry (as well there was a French one) and proved there was no conspiracy and it is not feasible the paparazzi had anything to do with it. The driver had been drinking, had only driven the heavily armed Merc a couple of times previously (and apparently it takes skill to drive them) and he speeded up as he entered the tunnel, lost control on the bend and the rest is history.

It's interesting to note that her bodyguard sitting in the 'death seat' survived because he was the only one wearing a seat belt, had Diana bothered to wear her seat belt who knows ? The enquiry also went on to say that had Diana not dismissed the security given to her by Buck House and allowed Dodis dad to take charge, it would have made a difference. Dismissing people who have trained and taken courses on just what to do when etc. was a silly move.

Not sure of the origin of the saying nor where I heard it, probably from my time in the RAF. The Diana saga is still rumbling on and on, see

Very interesting and abhorrent. I hope for their sakes the car can be obliterated, bad enough everything has dragged on this long.

It can be done by rote;

English is 97% phonetic. You cannot read or spell well if you do not know the code: What is the "Alphabetic Code"? Well, it starts off like this: There are 26 letters in the English language, which make 44 sounds and 70 basic ways to write those sounds.

Now I'm sure you know the 26 letters, but do you know the 44 sounds they make and the 70 ways to write them? That is the "Alphabetic Code

- 26, 44, and 70.. These are taught in a systematic, logical instruction. This is the most powerful weapon in the fight against illiteracy (reading and spelling) And with the right program, can be done in about 20 hours of self instruction.

It has been a long night and I am weary, which probably contributes to my thinking that there are many foibles of many people in the spotlight which should have been left in the closet. Too much information.

Yes, BUT I was taught phonetically, as was my husband and I usually can spell fairly well and he was terrible.

That hardly makes me illiterate. In fact, I can read fairly fluently in five languages.
