OT: Pet Names~!

Years ago my father learned a tough lesson about animal names -- don't let the children name the puppy right after they have seen a Disney movie. That adorable puppy we named Cinderella grew up to be a wonderful German Shepherd.

I have to also confess, a prior, now deceased dog, a black corgi / belgium shepherd cross, was named 'Pongo" by same daughter when she was 4 after "101 Dalmations" was re-released way back when. We also once had a cat named "Spider". Either myself or my ex-husband take the blame for that.

Friend has a black cat named "Spittlebug."

Too true. My brother wanted me to be called Pluto but fortunately my aunt had just taken on a Dalmatian puppy and they let him name that Pluto. I am happy about that !

My cat is Caled HAMUDI , which is Cutie in both Hebrew and Arabic , thus when i call him in , ,,,,,,,, i get some weird looks at times. mirjam

There's a cat on this island that goes by the name Dyrtigaf. When I asked the cat's owner about the origin of the name I was told that the cat was fiercely independent and the name came from "Do You Really Think I Give A Fig" (the last word wasn't Fig ) I think I prefer the traditional method of naming - cat is called Ceefer, dog is called Deefer.

Pluto - oh dear, that is better as a dog's name.

My mother had a dog named Gedunder. They named it that because my grandmother, who had a very thick accent, used to chase the puppy under the stove and yell "get under" and to their ears it sounded like one word.

I dunno, ole Bucket never missed one !

Well, those were pretty spoiled barn cats - fresh milk, mash (I have no clue, it was mash) and lots of cat friendly dogs. Who caught mice.

When I was a baby, we had Biscuit. All of my other dogs have had "human" names: Fritz, Holly, Nicky, Chelsea, Judy, Belle and Monte. Scruffy would have been an exception except the neighbors took him back We don't know what happened to him. :(

They have determined that mousers have a genetic marker and without that a cat will starve while the mice run around it. Strangely enough Hidiyeh must have that marker as one night in the summer I heard all this banging and thumping in the livingroom and finally got up to investigate. She had one of those big hawk moths and was playing it to death. Not a clue how it got in, but she found it fine.

Arrrghhh why did I mention summer ? Just the thought of it makes me sad. We had freezing rain all night that turned to very heavy rain that turned to high winds. I went to Dartmouth this a.m. and the trip over the bridge was - interesting lol

Oh dear, what did they say about taking him back. I remember you told us about him and we all thought they wouldn't miss him.

The (it's a mother and her grown son) said each of them thought the other one had taken him to a friend's house and "didn't meet up for a week." We were very upset, but he wasn't ours and we didn't want to get into a police dispute. Shortly thereafter he disappeared. Since they are no longer speaking to us, I can't find out what happened to him. We told them we would take him if they or their "friend" didn't want him.

We keep a close on their backyard to make sure they don't get another dog - if they do, I promise to watch out for it too!

Nature - another "huh" or "what the heck" moment. A cat that won't eat mice. What would it hunt then

My driveway is an adventure. The plow guy didn't come, the sun only just came out. And yesterday was snow followed by freezing rain. YUCK.

We had an Elkhound named Shane which caused me, at 8 months pregnant, to be seen running down the road yelling, "Shane, come back Shane" just like in the western.

Our current cats are named after candy: Snickers, Kit Kat and Bliss. Former pets were named after Broadway musicals: Phantom and Gypsy. Moni

Our cat was formally D. Ralph Murray at the Vet's office. Eventually the girl couldn't stand it and asked what the D. was for. Dammit Ralph is what he seemed to hear most often!
