OT: So be it!

So if the government determines that it is against the law for the words "under God" to be on our money, then, so be it.

And if that same government decides that the "Ten Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government installation, then, so be it.

And since they already have prohibited any prayer in the schools, on which they deem their authority, then so be it.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding citizen.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the public's best interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?

Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don't believe the Government and its employees should participate in the Easter and Christmas.... celebrations which honor the God that our government is eliminating from many facets of life.

I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it's just another day.

I'd like our Government to be in session on Christmas, Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays. After all, it's just another day.

I'd like ALL Representatives to *NOT* have to worry about getting home for the "Christmas Break." After all .... it's just another day.

I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved, if all government offices & services would work on Christmas, Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn't cost any overtime since those would be just like any other day of the week to a government that is trying to be "politically correct."

In fact....I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially set aside for worshipping God...) because, after all, our government says that it should be just another day....

As an atheist, there's absolutely nothing wrong about any of the above. I do, however, find it insulting that so many people who claim Sunday should be a day of worship and rest manage to find time to go retail shopping and out to eat (they're *so* busy every other moment of the week, doncha know), thereby making other people serve them. Especially when they deliver pious lectures about the evilness of working on their lord's day to the same people they demand cash them out or serve them food.

And Thanksgiving is NOT a religious holiday, despite the many spins to the contrary. One can be thankful without attributing thanks to a god.

Melody (I always found it amusing that people at college would complain about the local bagel shop being closed Saturday mornings.)

I like that, Fred. Do I have your permission to send it to our small town newspaper? Frances

This is making the rounds of the internet and has been for some time. It does not originate with Fred. Google in quote "mail delivered on Christmas" and you'll find it all over the place.

SNIP of religious screed

- Fred - why did I have the impression you are Canadian? - and if you look we DON'T have under God on our money and never have. We also don't put the ten commandments in government buildings, or any of the other things that you mention. We do invoke God in Oh Canada, and there actually is a mention in the Canadian constitution, but thank goodness, we keep religion out of day-to-day government.

The court ruled that you can not have the ten commandments posted in a court room. Apparently the lawyers felt that having "You shall not steal" and "You shall not lie" posted in the courtroom made for harsh working conditions.

Well, there's lawyers and there's lawyers, as I am sure most everyone knows. If I ever need "one of you" I will use the services of one that I know and trust or a lawyer that is recommended by a person I know and trust. I did legal temp work for about 5 years and I have seen all breeds of lawyers and I didn't care for very many of them. Not that they were necessarily liars or thieves but they just weren't very nice people. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Fair enough (which you always are.) It just gets to some of us, that there seems to be an automatic unthinking disparagement of lawyers. On another thread, people are talking about an unpleasant LNS owner--but when some says "the owner of my LSN" on here, people don't automatically say "(expletive) shopowners--you know what they're like!". I've met officious cops, bossy nurses, cold fish doctors, pedantic profs, snarky waiters, patronising computer salespeople, know it all teachers, prissy priests........ unpleasant people in all walks of life!! And still, most people, whatever work they do, are good people, doing the best they can. Dawne
