I used to be a dedicated earl grey drinker - I now think Ceylon is the best tea you can drink!

Well, that's when I drink tea...which isn't often, I'm much more of a coffee girl! Prefer Sumatran, with sugar and creamer.

Caryn

I love Sumatran! Have you tried the Tanzanian Peaberry or Guatemalan?

Cheryl

Guatemalan, but not Tanzanian. Good stuff!

We also buy (in bulk) this coffee from First Colony Coffees called Rainforest Blend. Discovered it at a B&B we stayed at last fall. It's rich but smooth.

Caryn

I'll look for it some time! the Tanzanian was a hint from a fellow ne.foodie.

Amen sister. Baseball is the most boring tedious game there is, and the commentators are worse than the game. "That is only the 11th time in the history of the Mooseheads that a red-haired right handed batter born in January has hit a double with a Puerto Rican left fielder on base." I like Canadian football better (fewer downs, bigger field) , but do watch American. (Go Vikings) Dawne

I picked up a Scottish Breakfast blend--really makes you sit up and eat your oatmeal. Dawne

Prolly got a wee dram in it ?

Eeee, I wish. But easily remedied, and the colour is quite alike. Dawne, needing much more like a wee keg

Aw, c'mon, Dawne! Baseball is the _perfect_ stitching sport! You don't need to actually watch it to follow the action...a radio and your mind's eye are sufficient. On a summer's afternoon, there's nothing better than bright sun, a cool breeze, a cold lemonade, some pretty cross-stitch, and the Giants whuppin' the Dodgers on KNBR. (Or the Red Sox vs. the Yankees, etc.) You just kick back and let the game narrative sort of wash over you. If something exciting happens, you'll hear it and attend...if not, a small catnap is always something to enjoy.

Baseball and football both have so much dead time in them you know you won't really miss anything exciting since the good stuff will be replayed three or four times. That said, I LOVE baseball.

As they say, it's a good thing we don't all like the same thing, or think of the haggis shortage! Baseball is the only professional sport I can watch and though becoming a convert late in life I really enjoy it. I agree that the commentators are terrible, I often watch with the sound off and sometimes I put on the radio commentary instead which is better.

You young'uns haven't a clue what real baseball was like. I'm talking about going to Ebbets Field in Brooklyn when I was a kid and watching the Dodgers play the Yankees in a Subway Series. That's what they called the World Series when both teams were from New York. That was baseball as it was supposed to be played. Yes, it was a slow game, but when there was a hit it was an amazing thing to see 50,000 fans get to their feet cheering. There was no scandal, there were no drugs and the players were in it for the love of the game as much as for the money.

Now the game has changed and I don't think that change was for the better.

Oh no----I had better start stockpiling haggis!!! (We did once run out of turnips at a parish fall supper, and bitter were the complaints.) The CBC workers are locked out here in Canada, so our football broadcasts have no commentary other than what the microphones can pick up of the stadium announcers. Many people have indicated that they like the games much better this way. Dawne

Apart from dutifully attending a grandsons football game last Sunday, it's not something I am interested in, soccer is the sport I like (because the male players have such wonderful bodies) Friends who like football tell me they are having the best of both worlds, picture on television and radio commentary, try that out.

I love CBC One Overnight and miss it dreadfully being an insomniac. I have finally found a replacement on television, behind the printout of the weather forecast is VoicePrint Canada - people reading from newspaper and magazine items for blind people. Privately I suspect as well it is useful for some adult illiterates to keep them up to date, but whatever, it is great for me too during the lockout. Though I do prefer the international news broadcast of CBC Overnight.

I looked at that CBC site and see there are about 11 items left that have yet to be negotiated, sigh.

Going to a baseball game is fun, watching it on TV is not.

Back before Cleveland built the Indians a new stadium, a bunch of us would go up to games. Stadium held over 80,000 people, but attendence at Tribe games was usually below 2,000. We got our own beer guy, who just gave up and sat with us to watch the game!

Usually it was the other side hitting homeruns and such tho! lol

yes, loooovely. And I love the look of a player with long hair running down the field. Baseball players look lumpy in their uniforms.

CBC 1 is my wakeup, on the clock radio--and honestly I have enjoyed some of the music choices the beleaguered fill-ins have chosen, especially on the weekend when our local morning show is bloody awful. The lock-out hit just when DH had finally recogized that his morning choice--news-talk radio (more like news squawk)--was a horrible start to the day, since all it did was sensationalize and simply issues, sending more people out to drive to work with their blood boiling!! So maybe when the strike is over I can switch him over. Dawne

The music has not appealed to me, mostly because I feel at 2 a.m. the music should be of a more soothing nature lol Our weekend morning show is hilarious and has a very large following. It's music but an entertaining host, Stan Carew, with Deputy Doug at the controls and Duke the studio horse etc. - maritime comedy at its finest for older folks lol

I think the newsreaders on television have done a magnificient job - it's very difficult to read the news expressively while the ear phone is sqawking away with instructions to pick up the pace, slow down the pace, finish in five, four, three, two, one second, fade to commercial lol

I shall be sooo glad when they are back in - I strongly feel they will be before Sept 21, both sides must be eager to make that date.

Kinda like the old days at Anaheim Stadium, when the Angels were just the red-headed stepchild down the freeway from the Dodgers (an import! send 'em back t' Brooklyn!), and you could get a field box seat just past the dugout even minutes before gametime. Now they're a fad, and you're lucky to get nosebleed seats months ahead of time. I'm proud of that World Series title, but going to the game just isn't what it once was.
