Re: Children's Sizes?

Do any of you mommies or grannies have appropriate dimensions for

Under two or three, scarves are currently considered a choking hazard.

I'd keep a scarf under 3 inches wide and maybe 36" long

18 months and 4 years might be close in age, but in development they're worlds apart. Neither girl is going to care they're not getting similar gifts. In fact, the 18 month is too young to even understand what a gift is. To the four year old, both presents are clothing (and not a toy), so that's as similar as she's going to care. She's not going to think "her clothes are better than mine". Toys, that's another story. There are some great freebie patterns for baby/toddler winter hats out there on the yarn brand websites. That way, they're both getting something reasonably similar, the cost and effort would be about the same, yet the 18mo will actually be able to use it now. If the mom has to stuff it away for another two winters, I guarantee you she'll probably forget she has it at all! I have a 17 month old, and I forget about clothes I bought just the week prior! LOL

Actually, now that I think about it, are you going to be knitting or crocheting them? If you knit, I think it would be neat to do one of those narrow scarves (either flat or tube) with the eyelash yarn in pink (I made one for myself a few years ago). That way, it would be more of a boa/playing dress up gift (i.e. toy) that could be used year-round and not "clothing", which no child that age has an appreciation of. My niece is almost 4 (and quite the princess), so that's just my take on making it a fun yet useful gift.
