Reducing size/number of postings?

Does anyone know how to delete some of the postings? The list is so long and hard to scroll through. How do I get rid of the early ones? Thanks--------------Clarice in AZ

As I'm not sure what program you are using I can only give you some general hints. Look through your program's options. See if there is anything about not keeping messages over a certain again. I have mine set for 10 days. Anything older than 10 days is automatically removed.

I'm using Thunderbird (Mozilla/Firefox). In this program the setting is under "Tools" "Account Settings" and under the newsgroup server name is "Offline and Disk Space." One option on this screen is: "Keep: Messages which have arrived in the last ____ days" (number of days entered by you). There are a few other options on this screen that are helpful.

Since you're using Outlook Express....

  1. Right click on the newsgroup name in the list (usually on the left side of the screen)
  2. Choose Properties......Local File tab
  3. If you want to get rid of all of the posts and start fresh, click on Delete, Yes, then Compact.
  4. If you want to save the newest posts click Reset, Yes, Compact. Then go up to the top and click Tools, Get Next # Headers. That will redownload the last default number of posts.

If you choose Delete then change your mind later you can go back and hit Reset to get the newest posts back. Doing these things just removes the posts from your computer. They're still on the server.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Jeri. I hope I remember how to do it next time. Old age seems to remove the more recent memories--lol------Clarice
