Has anybody ever knit a celtic ruana? I'm talking about the really big ones that go past the knees with a slit up the front. I'm looking for a pattern and find they're as scarce as hens teeth.

The ruana I have is made in two large strips which are then sewn together up the back. The front is left open to make the slit. The strips are about 2 feet wide and probably 8 feet long, not including generous fringe. Hope that helps.

Haven't started it over yet, but thinking about collecting more odds and ends from yarn shops for it.

I just recieved a box full of vintage Workbasket and other craft bookletts through an EBay purchase. I am still going through it. I will be happy to send you the pattern via email (if I find one) if you will send me your email address. Mine is snipped-for-privacy@gmail.com.
Thanks everyone,
I've found some that I like, but there was always 'something' not quite right about them. So I've come up with my own design. Not that hard really. I only have to stitch a small swatch to get my gage measurements, then start knitting until I have two strips, then I'll join them up the back. I'll make my own cable stitch along the borders, and the whole thing is going to be white, with a red cable trim. :)
