I am chairing a meeting that will get pretty ugly tomorrow night. If challenged, I shall now be prepared to thunder "Silence, heretic, or I'll boil you in chocolate." Dawne

Okay, Pat. You whip up some chocolate-dipped Brussels sprouts, and let the rest of us know how they taste. Dawne

You can't mean me, 'peacemaker' ? That's a first. Now that you remind me, there is a jar of Crosse & Blackwell salad cream in the 'fridge lol

Now I can spoil it all by saying I'm with Ericka - there has been a noticeable groundswell of 'put Christ back in Christmas' here this year and I don't care what anybody says, I can hear that little note in there aimed at Muslims and other suspicious religions. Methinks all this Muslim witch hunting is starting to really work with some people.

When I worked with the Immigrant Settlement group a few years ago, Christmas always presented a problem to many immigrants. If it wasn't their religion they wanted to do anything that was expected of them in a correct manner. For instance, the biggest angst was trying to understand if they should give a Christian person a gift and if so what was considered appropriate. It was like a veritable minefield for them. Their religion doesn't tell them they shouldn't be at Christmas parties and the like and their kids certainly loved getting a gift and I never heard a single adult saying, doing or implying anything that suggested Christians shouldn't celebrate Christmas in any way they wanted. They were also eager that we attend their festivities when they occurred and we were never made to feel like outsiders.

Halifax is not that big, if 'they' were trying to squelch Christmas I am sure I would have noticed and come across some evidence of it. I think most people overlook the fact that immigrants came to Canada or the USA to make a new, better life for themselves and their children. They did not come as missionaries in the same manner in which many western people went to their countries of origin and tried to convert them.

If there is PC at work, it's generally - in my experience - silly servants doing it.

Slightly more runny than mayo, but basically a mayo base with a flavour to it, just a great deal nicer than Miracle Whip. For use on salads, very nice with lettuce, tomatoes, cukes, that type of salad.

Have a wine instead, it's just started snowing again here.

Last Tuesday my Guild went to the Community College for our Christmas lunch. One of the appetisers was I think, smoked salmon with a bitter chocolate sauce. Ruby might recall, I had chowder so didn't have that. Those that did said it was unusual but very nice.

We use cocoa powder, but yes, it definitely gives the chili a depth it doesn't otherwise have.

Well, I was going to say "serve them tartare" out of deference to you, but I was afraid someone would think I was advocating feeding the poor things...
