Now I only read this because it was included in vic`s post, but fancy being competitive about illness. Get your facts right, Karen - Victoria has told us how sad she is that her garden hasn`t been up to scratch lately, as she`s not been able to tend as much as she could.
DS and DH have a new game - one sits at the computer, with the I-tunes store up and plays the sample. The other has to guess the artist and song. This morphed from listening to the local "hard rock" station at night on the way home from the rink. After about 9 PM, it does "oldies" and DS couldn't figure out why Dad knew all these songs.
I am also getting a good laugh out of DS's love of the older local bands. Boston and J Giels Band used to play the clubs on the Cape in the late 70's (I even danced with Peter Wolf once). Aerosmith played my high school dances.
Cheryl we too have some Cloudy days , when the solar heater doesn`t have enough light ,,,,, but if you calculate all the MANY days that Nobody In Israel has to heat ther shower water ,,, it REALLY adds up . mirjam
Got your attributions wrong, Pat. I didn't say that. Would you have snarked the same way had you realized that it's Victoria bragging/complaining that she's sicker than I?

It depends on the color, quality, and number of LEDs. The more expensive solar garden lights have more LEDs in them, but require commensurately more power. Some also attempt to maximize the effect with mirrors and such as well. Still, halfway decent garden lights are about the limit of affordable technology now. It would have to get significantly more powerful and significantly cheaper to be a reasonable way to power holiday light strings.
Google up birds, wind power, and Altamont Pass....
Succinctly, California *did* put up windmills, and the activists are not happy because birds fly into the blades and kill themselves, which is (of course) the fault of the power company, not the birds' own stupidity.
I would've put up solar panels, but after buying the house, was informed that this is a historic preservation district, can't put anything on the house that wasn't original equipment in 1905. The neighbor looked into going solar, and was told No by the government agency(ies) she talked to. Even if they'd said yes, with the cost of solar panels, versus what I spend per month on electricity, it would be decades before my savings repaid the investment. (I think the number she was tossing around was $15,000 per panel, and thought each of us should have 3 panels, which means I wouldn't recoup my initial investment for about 60 years.)
For Israel, California, Arizona, where there's sun 330 days a year, solar is feasible, but in Cheryl's part of the world, where there's a lot of rain and a lot of snow, there would be a lot of days where solar would be useless, probably pushing Cheryl's break-even point on the current cost of solar into the next century.
Pat, I am the one who said the quote above, not Karen. And I also said I rarely, if ever complain. I am not a big complainer and you know what my health issues are and continue to be. They are far worse than CFS, which is not going to kill anyone.
Because I don't care much about you does not mean I don't care about people. I have tried to help you on several occasions, but you delight in staying ill, so maybe you should read some more books and apply them to your own life.
She DID say that you were fit enough to dig your garden though, did she not? When you had clearly remarked some time back that it was suffering because you couldn`t do as much?
My solar lights in the garden still glow (not brightly, but all the same, they do glow) even when there`s been little or no sun. You ceratinly couldn`t hold a party with them, but useful and pretty all the same.
Trust you to think of wind! Been at the beans again???
