WAAAAAYYYY OT: bearded dragons

Hi all,

Once again I come to the fount of all knowledge. :)

DS has 2 female bearded dragons and would like to sell them. They are each about 12" long, 3 or 4 years old. Along with them is their 6' x

1.5' x 2' tall glass aquarium, a wooden cabinet upon which it sits, the lights, food and misc. accessories.

Anyone have any idea how much he should ask?

Hi Joan-

If your son can wait until next weekend, I'll have more information. (Going to a reptile show here in Edmonton, hoping to pick up a pair of beardies, actually.) Wish ND were just a little closer, or I'd happily take them off his hands.

I've seen young ones (3 mos. or younger) here selling in the $80 - $140 range, in pet stores. In general, females are more expensive than males, and with a pair, of breeding age, and the set up... I don't know... $500 seems like a nice round number to start with.

Hope this helps!

Bet you`re glad to say goodbye to THAT little lot, Joan! Pity they`re not over here though, as my daughter would just LOVE them! (To go with her snakes, parrots, ferrets, rabbits and God knows what besides!)

Now, now, Pat... Some us like our scaly friends. ;-) Bearded dragons are great and low maintenance pets, as my 13-yr-old beardie would gladly tell you. (I'm just teasing, btw. I do recognize reptiles as pets are NOT for everyone.)

Sorry, I didn`t put that well - I love anything scaly - I was thinking more of the space it must take up (Having had a tropical fish tank for several years!) My daughters both had bearded dragons, and one still has several snakes - I was sorely tempted by the snakes.

There's no real rush, he'd just like the space they take up in his room!

What would it take to get them over the border? Maybe something could be set up to meet halfway or something....

Thanks, Mickey!

And for Pat, who wrote:

I haven't had them in my house for a couple of years. :) DS lives in town. Spaz (his first one) was about 6" long when he got her and she's about twice that now. They're actually pretty fun to watch, well, at least when they're eating.....

At the show last weekend, the juvenile bearded dragons (2-3 mos.) were in the range of $60 to $125, depending on color. There weren't very many adults available, but the one breeding pair I saw was $500 ($350 for just the female). I hope this helps.

As your son also has the set up, I think he could get a decent amount, depending on the market. I'd check out some of the pet forums and see what everyone thinks there, as well. Kingsnake.com is one that has been around a while.

While it actually isn't hard to get bearded dragons into Canada from the US (we brought our pair across July 2006), I unfortunately can't afford to travel even halfway right now. Busy schedule.

Now the space requirements I can understand! When we were house shopping last summer, I was very concerned that we have a location in the family room for our lizard cabinet. (Which we do now!) I really like snakes, but I can't stand the thought of feeding mousies to anything... So I stick to beardies - they eat bugs, and who doesn't want to see those eaten? LOL.
