It's been 100 degrees for over a month here in Tejas. I tell people the summers around here are like the winters up north. We don't go out in this weather unless it's in to the pool! But the other 9 months are beautiful.
We are no strangers to hot summers. I love that area of California. It's just beautiful and I'd move in a second. We would have to agree. Who knows...maybe he'll get figgerable!
At the time I lived in Lake Ronkonkoma NY on Long Island. The electricity was out for three weeks. Fortunately they didn't finish the transition of the LI Railroad to electric and I just took the train in daily and spent my days at Yankee Stadium.

Thank you for the conversion. I happen to have a beautiful piece of black evenweave I can now use. Ordinarily I am not a sampler stitcher, but when I see one I really love it's very attractive. You have excellent taste as I liked all you liisted above.
I think I will knock off Winter Sampler this coming week then start my beautiful Macaw.

Under "Animals" I like "All Thumbs." The curtain detail is beautifully designed. These websites ya'll are posting are VERY DANGEROUS to the addictive personality!
I've got charts kitted up that I was supposed to start back in January, but what do I do.... I start this one instead:
Don't remember Gloria. I remember what Agnes did and then what Bob did to Cape Cod, though. Part of my point to DH is that most things don't make it north of the Cape. Nor'easters can be a problem, but again, one usually gets some warning, unlike the tornadoes he grew up with.

Agnes and Bob were little ones compared to Gloria. She was truly scary, even here. I huddled in the basement at the condo by myself as the DH was traveling for work that week.

Aren't hurricanes fun !!!! lol Just think how it was here in FL to hear the shingles flying off your roof and the metal enclosures for the patios and pools coming apart, and objects flying through the air, in a world without basements.

>My next stitching project will be a padded freebie insert for a square Anchor Hocking jar with a recessed brushed aluminum lid. I will fill the jar with Coffee Nips and give it to my sister who has a coffee themed computer room.

No basements - yikes.....
Cheryl
Very few south Florida homes (maybe none) have basements. The water table doesn't allow it.
Fortunately I wasn't alone when we had Wilma that hung around for two days. A couple of my friends stayed at my house and a dog. When it got really awful, which of course was in the middle of the night, we just sat on the floor in my tiny laundry room which is in the center of the house and has no window and hoped for the best. I was lucky and my cinder block house lost the roof shingles without any major leaks and had damage to my patio and bushes and trees. Some people here weren't as lucky. Especially those who live in trailers or old wooden houses.
I went through hurricanes in New York but nothing quite as scary as the ones here.

Basements in Florida would be below sea level lol
Ohhh, I am very partial to the one_Thy Cone Runneth Over----------!

Most California houses don't, either. I thought maybe it was because of the earthquakes, but then talked to a friend who used to draw plans for architects, and she said she'd done some with basements, and they passed muster with the Building Code -- she thinks it's more that we don't have to use our basements as party places and rec rooms because we have back yards that are usable 330 days a year.
I love Coffee Nips and the canister. I've book marked the page for my morning coffee for a leisurely look-see.

Don't want to even think about it.... Yesterday's thunderstorm with "high winds" was bad enough

Cash agrees with you. Hates thunder, he does.

Then you should send him here and Puff will teach him what to do. You must go from room to room barking your fool head off until it goes away. If you run fast enough and bark loud enough, it leaves for a while.
Then you have to spread yourself out on the floor right in the middle of the room to rest after up from all that hard work.
L ;*))
No, Emilie says she has a better method. You crawl in bed with Mom. You make sure Mom is awake and hears the thunder. Then Mom will cuddle you, sing to you and drown it out until it goes away.
