Isn't that amazing! We can't be more than a couple of hundred miles away, and we are absolutely parched!

Gill, how on earth did you manage to settle in Florida in the first place. I don't think I have ever asked you - was it because of the EMIL ?

I shall remind you of this post when you are griping about a March snowfall, or dose of freezing rain in April, just you wait !!!

Yes, those whiny types in Florida should remember frozen slush, freezing rain, knee deep snow that has to be moved and just plain freezing cold wind with a chill factor.

It made me think of this old poem which shows how one section of the population views another lol

ONE night came on a hurricane, The sea was mountains rolling, When Barney Buntline turned his quid, And said to Billy Bowling: "A strong nor-wester's blowing, Bill; Hark! don't ye hear it roar, now? Lord help 'em, how I pities them Unhappy folks on shore now!

"Foolhardy chaps who live in towns, What danger they are all in, And now lie quaking in their beds, For fear the roof should fall in; Poor creatures! how they envies us, And wishes, I've a notion, For our good luck, in such a storm, To be upon the ocean!

"And as for them who're out all day On business from their houses, And late at night are coming home, To cheer their babes and spouses,-- While you and I, Bill, on the deck Are comfortably lying, My eyes! what tiles and chimney-pots About their heads are flying!

"And very often have we heard How men are killed and undone By overturns of carriages, By thieves, and fires in London; We know what risks all landsmen run, From noblemen to tailors; Then, Bill, let us thank Providence That you and I are sailors."

As I already said, weird Florida weather. Of course that's coming from someone who is stuck here but not by choice.

Since I'm one of the whiny types she's referring to, I'm sending Sheena a resounding RRRAAASSSPPPBBBEEERRRYYY !!!

And I do want to point out that when she gets her nose slightly out of joint the Scot in her comes out to play.

It was apparently bad enough to cancel my bus. The hill was thought to be too slippery, so I walked home with three big bags of groceries. I was left wondering if we'll have any bus service at all this winter!

Cancel the bus ??? Whereabouts are you ? The busses were pounding up and down Main and that's pretty steep.

I hadn't asked but I think Jim was retired when they moved there.

Yup, you were right on both counts! Inasmuch as this is an RV community we bought this piece of land, with a concrete pad, and hook-ups for the RV. We were living and travelling full-time in the RV then, free as the birds, but thought it might be useful to have a "resting spot" half-way between MIL and Jim's DS#1 in Miami, and his DS#2, DD, and my son all in the Jacksonville area. That was in 1996. We also had friends here.

Jim's brother, who had always taken care of the old lady, was murdered in Miami in 1994, and in Spring 1995 his wife evicted EMIL from the house in which she was living. Good old Gill went to bat ( had just sold my rental prperty in MD), and I bought a nice condo in a retirement community for Dottie to live in. It had everything!!

To cut a long story short, we stopped by to visit her, without notice, and found her in bed, sick as a dog, no food in the house, unwilling to call anyone for help. On the way home we had a discussion, and decided to put a house on our lot, and move her in. She was going to kill herself if she had to go to a nursing home; she had the pills saved. I didn't know at that time that she caould not swallow pills!! Manipulated, we were!

She is now gone, and we would like to be, too!!

End of saga!

So much for one getting one's just rewards - you're having to wait a long time after putting up with the EMIL. I hope the people who looked today decide they want it, keep my fingers crossed.

I'm Scottish but you are right, I believe we do tend to hold on to things like that lol

I know you're Scots... that's why I made the generic Celtic comment. My mother used to accuse my father of holding a grudge forever and I know I have to watch the same thing. Comes of long memory for insignificant details, I think.

My father used to tell me, when I'd accomodated someone who was being unreasonable, that I'd get my reward in heaven...

a bale of hay with the other jackasses.
