I have a lot more than 3.... but, here are some top contenders.

1. Finish quilting my Dear Jane quilt. I want to enter it in next year's quilt show.

1. Get some of the patterns of my designs using charm squares out on the market.

2. Make some new clothes for myself.

#1) Complete hand quilting on the Kidlet's quilt. It's pinned, four of the 15 blocks are quilted (in the ditch) plus some embroidery. Oh, and "in that spare time I seem to regularly misplace" Kidlet told me she wants it bigger/wider (NOW she tells me this!!! argh -- so, figure out how to do that!) and I've got a block to turn it into a quillow. Er, learn how to do that. By October.

Now there's something I've never done. I've seen blue and yellow quilts that are sooooo humdrum and some that just sparkle. Do you know the trick to color choices for that one? Polly

Only one at the moment: finish a (now) WH for my neice. This UFO was begun about 25 years ago. I think the main reason it has not been finished is because it was MIL's project to begin with. She ordered the pattern and ironed on the guidelines. I was supposed to use the fabric paints (came with the pattern --guess that means it was a kit of sorts) to paint in the people and such. I did do some of it, but stalled as life and my own projects intervened. We've traded the project back and forth a few times, and now that the youngest of MIL's grandkids is about to turn 2, I've decided I better get it finished. However, there is no way I'm going to paint the rest of these blocks. I'm thinking more embroidery, applique (ME???!!!), embellishment and so on, kicking this project into the WH category rather than the quilt-for-a-bed category.

DN's b'day is Feb 1 so I really better get my butt in gear. MIL has agreed to assemble it if I finish the squares. Sigh. And me with so many of my own deadlines and projects already on the perverbial plate!

Polly, I think one of the things that helps is including a bit of pure white. Usually as a background to some of the blues/yellows. As well as a variety of values and *not* staying with only one line of fabric. I occasionally do a quilt with just one line of fabric, but it has to be a really strong line to carry it off.

No problem. A hint, think of math as a game. There are many layers of rules and each layer builds on the previous layers. The main thing in solving an equation is (besides always doing the same thing on each side of the = sign ) to never do something without knowing *why* you are doing it. e-mail me if you do need help, and I will do what I can.

You might consider coloring the patterns. You can use Crayola crayons, but Prang brand are better. Color, press with white paper towels top and bottom, and you can add more color-press for darker colors. These will stay fairly bright for a few washings but can fade out with lots of washing/hot water/dryer. Might be easier and faster in the long run. You might even get help from some of the other family members It is amazing how many adults/teens enjoy coloring.

I agree -- if you look at any of the really lovely things done in blue and yellow, you'll see that there is almost always a bit of vibrant, clear white. I don't like blue and am not terribly fond of yellow but I always seem to get a bit of yellow in almost every quilt I make! I am getting ready to go quilt the crib quilt for my DNiece -- the shower is Saturday 13 Jan so I had best get hoppin'. She chose that Peter Rabbit fabric and I got several different coordinating blue prints, a carrot print and a radish print to go with it. It was just ho-hum when I put all of the different fabrics together so I decided it needed some yellow. I found a nice light yellow with tiny medium yellow spots in my stash and that is just what the quilt needed! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

1. Get this house in shape to sell and get the new house built so I have a quilt studio larger than the 10X10 bedroom I'm suffering in right now. We just installed a wall of cabinets in the laundry room- did it all this afternoon, in fact! YAY!

1. Finish a quilt for Susan (Coneflower Crazies made with batiks) and a king-sized blue and yellow log cabin (for on our bed) that's been a UFO for several years- so this house will look "sparkly" fresh and pretty while it's for sale.

2. Get in some sewing time every day- for my mental health. ;-)))))

All the ones that sparkle to me seem to scream out crisp clean spring with their colors. First you need a clear yellow that is strong enough to pop when it's put against white. That's the easy part. Next you need a vibrant blue. This is the tricky part--you need a blue that sizzles, but doesn't over power the yellow. A humdrum "cool" blue just won't work so stay away from blues that seem to have a little green or gray tinge to them. Debra in VA See my quilts at

I just took pics of my blue and yellow log cabin. In the photo the one yellow fabric really stands out.... oops! Karen's quilt backing with the blue and yellow Warm Wishes block is much stronger contrast to the log cabin's softer colors. And I'm not really a fan of blue or yellow, either. hmmmmmmm......

I have no reason to believe that my monitor reads colors right - but it seems to me that the log cabin is soothing and the Warm Wishes has the kind of dazzle I love. Both are wonderful; thank you Leslie. Polly
