Please share my joy as I relate some recent events in my life.In 1971 my parents took me from Michigan to Abilene, TX to stay in a home for unwed mothers. In August of that year, I gave birth to a boy, signed the papers and Mom and Dad took me back home. It was never mentioned again in our home. I did tell Bob about it before we were married. After Mom died I contacted the agency and filled out the papers just in case the young man ever wanted to locate me.About a month ago I got a letter from the agency saying that they had been contacted by the young man. They then forwarded a letter to me that he had written. I immediately sent back a letter to be forwarded to him, had some release forms notarized and waited. On March 17, I received the call I had been waiting for for 36 1/2 years! His name is Matthew Meyer. He is married to a girl he met while in the Army in Germany and has 3 children. He lives in Texas about 2 1/2 hours south of me.Last Saturday we met! He is currently in the Navy and is a recruiter. Beth and Amanda want to meet him. Nathan isn't saying how he feels and Bob wants nothing to do with it. (I told each of the kids about his existence when they were each about 18 years old). Marilyn and Neil are both happy for me and would like to meet him.I am so grateful to God for this reunion. I never expected it but always hoped.I wanted my 3 closest cousins to share in my joy and I hope you can. His mother has done a wonderful job raising him (his parents divorced when he was 2 and he was raised by just his mother). He was a great sense of humor, is allergic to penicillin like me and doesn't like heights especially bridges just like me. I think he is a great addition to the family. How absolutely wonderful!! I am an adopted child, and have never been contacted by my birth mother. But if I ever DID have the opportunity for a reunion, I wish it were as positive and caring as yours. Paulette in WV

Hi Paulette,

You could make the first move - maybe your birth mother is hoping you will do that.

As I said in my other post, my husband made the first move and it was great.
