Advent/12 days of Christmas calendar

I bought these buttons that are adorable. They are toys! I had this thought (11th hour, I know) that I would like to make a Christmas count down calendar for my grandkids, but can't find a pattern. Anyone have any ideas? Have anyone seen something like I am referring?

Used to make lots of advent calendars for bazaars and such. One was a Christmas tree appliqued to a sturdy background, with either a hanging sleeve or brass curtain rings at the top for hanging. Decorate the tree with gold braid garlands and 24 dots of red velcro. (One goes at the top of the tree for the star.) Put the other half of the velcro on your toys. Make a gold star. If the tree seems a bit bare with only 24 ornaments, you could applique a few extra ones. Embellish the background any way you like. Maybe make a pocket at the bottom to hold all the ornaments. That sounds good Roberta. I wish I had 24 days of Christmas to do. Not only do I have to make it, but I have to mail it. Bad girl Boca Jan - Why do you get ideas at the last minute???????

Lived in Denmark for many years, where Advent calendars are Big. The easy last minute solution, officially sanctioned by many Danish mommies, is to tie 24 little gifts or wrapped candies or even poetry quotes on a pretty ribbon to hang up, or stick them in a jar to which you have glued something decorative. You can still send 24 if you like, with instructions to consume enough to get up to the appropriate day. Roberta in D
