Baby's have the right idea

I was going to quilt today since my DH had chores to do and my DD was going to pick out countertops and kitchen cabinets. It was a beautiful day her in NJ. No AC needed, my oldest cat found a comfy seat near my studio window and clicked a the birds on my feeders in the tree outside my window. We all changed our minds and went to the beach instead.

This was Finn's first experience with the beach. We had no idea what to expect, but my DD gently lowered him to the sand. He hesitated for a nano-second before he went down on all fours and started digging in the sand like he was born at the beach. Then my DD took him down to the water line and let him see the ocean for the first time. His eyes were wide as saucers as he took it all in. Then she held him as the waves gently lapped at his feet. His smile said it all! Sheer joy - nothing but sheer joy on his little face. From that point, he was unstoppable. He didn't even mind getting soaked.

We could take a lesson from babies. They don't need the lights and bells and musical do-hickeys. Oh they enjoy them alright, but the little feet feeling his first wave was the best thing yet! Somebody else said it as well - it really is all about the little things in life, isn't it?

So, did you get pictures?

Some of my favorite pictures of my son are of his first visit to the beach. It was early morning and there was nothing on the beach but Robbie and the seagulls. In the pictures, he is so intent on digging a moat, that the birds are practically sitting on him. Lovely!
