I was just wondering if any of you have had a problem with Minkie backings bearding to the front of your quilts. I saw an absolutely LOVELY Christmas themed quilt at a show-and-tell the other day. It was a queen (or larger maybe) and backed with a luscious deep red minkie and the quilting looked stunning on the minkie back. I was sitting just close enough to see all these little bright red dots showing through the white fabrics on the front. At first I thought it was maybe just the marking pencil not having been washed out yet. Taking a second look, I realized that it was the red minkie backing fibers poking up through the quilt in the stitching holes. Once you saw it, you saw it everywhere, but it was especially noticible on the white fabrics. It was quite distracting.
So, inquiring minds want to know. Has this happened to you? Is there a fix? Do you just live with it and plan accordingly when choosing the backing minkie? What say the clan?
