Before I cut the fabric a question

You're doing fine, Ruby. Cut eleven strips straight across from one selvedge to the other. I well understand your caution; there was a kit at the Pensacola quilt show that I really loved but it was so expensive I couldn't begin to pay for it. I'd be very tempted to measure the fabric and assure that there was sufficient ( 77") - over 2 yards. Don't know what could be done if there isn't but I'd probably measure and mark anyway. This wouldn't be a good time to miss if you're going to need some of it for another sort of cut. You can do it! Polly

The only kits I've done are the ones that I've gotten from Quilts for Kids. Thank heavens as I never seem to be able to cut correctly. Recently went on a bit of a shopping spree in Lancaster, PA. It's why I always over-buy for the purpose. Just the other day was cutting binding to finish a quilt for my friend's 60th birthday (and happy dancin' cuz it is FINIISHED!). Cut appropriate number of strips all too narrow. No problem, that's why I bought extra. Cut the next set of strips wider only to find out yet another one was too narrow. Now there's barely enough of that fabric left to qualify as a scrap! I think I'd be with Polly and measure, measure, measure. Did you get the kit from a shop local to you that they made up? Maybe they have some 'extra' you might want to pick up 'just in case'. That would be me.

If it says that, then I'd do just that: seven inches of selvedge-to-selvedge. It says WOF because fabrics vary---it might be 45" (unlikely), or 44", or 42"......somewhere in that area. That's the way they planned it, and presumably tested with that precise fabric, so whatever the width of the fabric really is, that's wide enough.

I wouldn't take it as 7" x 45" and consider laying it out differently, because if the fabric is less than 45", it's possible that you wouldn't then have enough fabric for the whole project.....

It's also possible that the grain or pattern direction matters.
