California 2007

Hi Everyone,

Been awhile since I posted but just got back from a tour of California. I drove all the way down to San Diego, stopping to visit with some friends and family along the way.

I've done a travelogue again. Didn't stop at every quilt shop, but managed to hit quite a few along the way. Hope you enjoy the first instalment.

Sandi, you amaze me, as always! You certainly do get around, and I love hearing about all the places you see. :D

Quilter's Junction is my LQS. :) Next time you go down I-5, you should go to Oakland, OR (MP 142 or so) and visit the antique shops there. I know a lovely motel to stay in just north of there and about a days drive from the US/Canadian border.

Thanks Mary D, don't you grow wonderful flowers?

I used to have flowers. Now we live in an apartment within the motel we manage. No time for gardening. But maybe next year I can plant flowers again. We found a buried sprinkler system.

I'm glad to hear you're getting back to it, Sandi -- but I'm very sorry to hear that you're not feeling too well. I hope you'll get it under control soon and begin to feel better.

Thanks Sandy,

Actually I'm doing a lot better, meds are improving and my hands are allowing me to get back quilting again. Did a sit and stitch at the local Fall Fair and did both some machine piecing and a bit of sashiko.

I got one of those cheater printed pieces to start out with.

I, also, am relieved to hear that you CAN sew. It does my heart good after seeing what Mr Joe just went thru the last few years. Isn't it something that they finally have a few GOOD medicines for it now so that if One doesn't work you can try another and another.

Butterfly (Waiting to find out when I can put you on my calendar)

Sorry Butterfly, but you'll have to wait for a bit before I can commit. It was great meeting with you and your son in Houston last year.

That's good news, Sandi! :) Are you doing hand sashiko or machine sashiko? I have a book on the machine kind, but I haven't yet gotten around to trying it.

I'm doing the hand kind. I took a machine sashiko class from Sharon Pederson [Reversible Quilts] and would recommend her book based on her class before the book.

And of course that's who wrote the book I have. Someday I'll get around to it!
