Classic Color Combinations

The Irish Chain thread reminded me of something I've been thinkingabout off and on.Classic color combinationsBlue and yellowBlue and white or red and whiteBlack and brightsRed/black/whiteGold/Burgundy/Greenand those I connect to fabric lines like Kansas Troubles and Fig Tree.I feel like I'm 'cheating' when I use one of these old favorites.It's like I'm writing a song, using someone else's melody and I'm justchanging the words around a bit.Do you have a favorite color combination?joanBTW, in working in a quilt store I have some to the conclusion (notoriginal or earth-shattering either) that people tend to quilt withthe colors that they wear. After all, it only makes sense. But it'sstill funny to check out someone with a stack of fabric that is thesame color as their outfit that day. :> One of the reasons that Ienjoy making store samples or getting fabric as a gift is that itforces me out of my comfort zone. Not for long, mind you, but outthere just a little bit.

Not much is new. Kids got older (DD is halfway through college, DS is now a 6' hairy-legger halfway through high school).The practically- perfect dog died from eating raisins, and we now have another. I bought a house a little over five years ago. Been on the same job for

5.5 years now (a record for me!). Still single and wishing but no bites. I've stayed in touch with some of the old-time r.c.t.q.ers on the rctq Baseball Swap, as I'm a swapper there. So other than the kids getting older, not much has changed.

some blocks for swaps, mostly, in the last five years. My job has really cut into my quilting time! I finished up the wallhanging with the turquoise chips almost exactly five years ago...and I think that was the last quilting I've done. I've made costumes and clothing, mostly, since then. Will be making more blocks for some TreadleOn block exchanges this fall/winter/spring.

Gosh, having to eat and pay bills really does limit what fun things we can do, doesn't it? :S Still, whether or not you're actively quilting, don't be a stranger! :)
