define shabby chic

Can someone define the term 'shabby chic'? Judging from ads for fat quarters in quilting mags, it seems to be predominately pink. Can someone explain exactly what I'd need (or need to do) to make a quilt shabby chic ?

Thank you muchly earthmagic in oz

I've never seen the term applied to quilting -- or rather to "new" quilts. Here's my take on what it is: Shabby Chic is a sort of decorating style that incorporates a lot of "found" elements (from antiques to cast-offs and crafted items) that are often refurbished, contains collections and mismatched collections, and goes for sort of a luxe-items-salvadged-from-garage-sales look that is sort of like an upgraded cottage style look. It usually incorporates a lot of slipcovers and faded/washed floral fabrics and linens, collections of, for example, mismatched porcelain tea cups, and stuff like restored crystal chandeliers and candleholders. Often, there are vintage quilts incorporated as slipcovers, throws, etc.

So, yes, I guess if you were go> Can someone define the term 'shabby chic'? Judging from ads for fat
