Traveling does get old at times, especially since the airport rules have changed. It might take up to 2 hours to just get through security in some places. The airline food is terrible, seats are often cramped, headset sockets are broken so you can't hear the movie, you have to scrape inches of ice off your rental car and they didn't supply you with a scraper, etc. And, I am away from my family for days and sometimes several weeks at a time.
But, I have gotten to see sights in California, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, South Carolina, Florida (which gives me several days with my family), New England states, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana and Nebraska. I try to find a quilt shop in each location. I have an upcoming trip to Denver which will allow me to see the Denver quilt show. My husband can travel with me which makes the trip a mini-vacation for both of us. I get to read for hours on end or listen to podcasts without interruption while on the plane or waiting in the terminal. And I meet some really interesting people. Plus, I'm out of the office and don't have a boss hanging over my shoulder, although my boss is pretty terrific. The downside is that the travel generally sucks extra energy out of me and I mostly collapse into bed when I get back to the hotel especially if there is a big time difference. But the hotels are always top notch and very cozy with all the comforts of home but without anyone snatching the remote out of my hand - gee, I do miss that at times though. I always pack a bathing suit and walking clothes with good intentions, but mostly they stay packed. But I keep hoping!
We're planning our retirement in the next 6 years and guess what my husband is looking forward to doing????? Yes, traveling!
