Done!

Congratulations on finishing the boxes, Kathyl! I cannot find the link, which I once had, and would appreciate you or someone posting the link again. Thank you. PAT in VA/USA

There seems to be a problem getting this to print out bigger than a ring box. I'm not sure how my patterns were enlarged...maybe I used the original magazine page? My brain is fried after making all of them! In fact....I have two sizes that I have printed...how or why...I don't know!!! Printer settings?? Good Luck!

They are spectacular! For those of us who have a wedding looming in the coming year - ahem, one could use something like this for favors. Is there a pattern easily available?

These ARE for DD's wedding.

A word of "warning" ...there have been a few problems getting this to print out bigger than a ring box. I have two larger sizes saved, but I don't remember how I got them printed off bigger. Perhaps a "fit to page" setting on the printer? Anyway, you might need to tinker with it.

Oh, I know that, I was referring to moi - DD planning for October 2009. I love these and they are right up her alley. I think I can enlarge the pattern at work on the big copier. Thanks for sharing, yours are wonderful! I love them!

Duh! I'm still a little dull in the head...... Yeah...I think October 09 should work....if you plan for as many as I have.....start EARLY! I think the cutting out was the worst part. No...the ironing and layering....no the cutting out....maybe it's a tie. And not doing a shamrock at the top would be a good idea too!!! Let me know if you need any of the measurements. Cutting them out of a cardstock would let you figure out what size will work before making fabric ones. Thanks for your nice comments.

No worries! DD wants an autumn wedding so I would imagine she'll want pumpkins, autumn leaves and even sunflowers perhaps. I may just make a bunch of these even if she doesn't want them - but who wouldn't! I don't think I will have to make as many as you - at least I hope not! We may have to go to Plan B if that happens!

Oh how I wish DD could have done an autumn wedding...so does she. But that's her busiest time of year. She's a high school band director, so with Friday night football games and Saturday marching band competitions, it just couldn't happen then. DS and future DIL will have their wedding at Thanksgiving....just a little past the nicest fall weather....but at least they can still use fall colors and flowers.

Howdy!

Under the pattern, the article says: " After making one, you will find that it is difficult to stop."

Guess you took that literally, huh, Kathyl?

How did the pattern print out for you, Pat?

Alice: It didn't really print as a ready to use pattern. The shape just came as part of the general directions. I figure that if and when I want to use this, I can just enlarge the shape. I don't have an immediate need for this project, but did want to capture the article before it disappears from the site.

Thanks, Pat. That's what I thought as well. I figured I'd get enlarged on a copier. We use up to 14" x 17" paper at work but I think I'll go a bit smaller ;>)

I inserted the shape into a Word doc and then dragged the corner out to whatever size I needed on A4 paper and then just printed it. I've got plans to make it big enough that a quarter of the pattern fits on the page, so you'd need A1 to print it out, or print in 4 parts and tile it like a Wild Ginger pattern. Not sure what I'd use it for yet, but it would be fun! :D

i saved the pix of the box on quilting arts site. then opened it in Paint, everyone who uses windows has that. i checked the size out of curiosity. click on image/attributes, change the units to inches and it shows up as

6.34" X 5.5". should pr> AliceW wrote:

FYI I just measured the two sizes I have made. As I've said before, I'm not exactly sure what I did to get these two sizes printed out. But...the largest size I'm using measures 10.5 inches from tip to tip on the "arms" with the slits cut in them. The smaller size measures just a titch more than an inch less. 9 7/16th or so. :-) I bet 9.5 would work just fine.... heheheh :-) The last time I printed the pattern from the website....just as Jeanne said...it would probably hold a thimble....or an engagement ring! Or one almond!

The one I did was 8" across the longest measurement (the one with the slits in) and it came out just the right size.I have a 10.1/2" one but that came out a bit big for my purpose. I had two weights of interfacting that were stiffish. The one I used for the bigger one came out too fat (just looked too thick from the side) but the thinner one worked ok on the 8" measurement. Might finish the bigger one and put a Christmas gift in it.

I printed them out in paper and cut them out to try the siz. and then used the cut outs as the patterns.

Kathyl suggested turning the images round so that they were X on the paper instead of +, and of course this way you can get them on a single normal paper size without having to join the pattern - unless you want giant size treasure boxes!

The sides don't close completely - a thimble would fall out. I had to put my sugared almonds in a little plaggy-bag.
