Thanks Laurie The long-arming is still lots of fun. I have been thinking about trying trapunto on my longarm. I did take my class at LEQuilters. It was fun, but mostly a review of the stuff I have learned by reading at the quilting groups and just playing with my machine. It was good to have some reminders about some stuff and I learned a lot more about threads. I even bought a cone of Signature Pixelles thread to try. I was told that it can be tricky to use. Especially if you are timid about adjusting the tension. I got the "Gems" color. And now that I think about it, I think it would look great on some of the Bohemian Chic fabric! Okay, now that's just too much of a coincedence. The "Gems" color wasn't even my first choice. They were out of the color I wanted!

Thanks Phaedrine. I have been having so much fun window shopping the last two days! I'm getting lots of ideas for future quilts. I need to do this more often :-)

they are cheerful charm packs (LOL!!!)

actually they are 5"squares sometimes one of each sometimes two of each (it will say: "You will receive 2 duplicates in each Jolly Pack" if there are two of each.)

I don't see any other difference between charm packs and jolly packs other than that you can sign up to receive the jolly packs as a club.

Are you sure? I saw Superior threads on the website. Are they going to stop selling them sometime in the future?

If you are gonna get into charm packs try to get hold of a couple of books - Nickel Quilts and More Nickel Quilts. All the designs are for 5" squares.

Hahaha I didn't know what charm packs were too:)

But I think I get the picture, it are packs of smal 5' by 5' pieces of fabric that are colorcoded.

sort of - they are not identified but you choose fabrics that are all from the same fabric line.

and yes they are in this case 5" squares

a charm pack is one of a kind per pack *no* duplicates.

Most are packs of 5" by 5" samples of - for instance - every fabric in a new series. So if Moda brings out a new fabric design there is sure to be a charm pack that will have a piece of every fabric in the series.

If you can take a look around the Fat Quarter site you will see the charm packs

I've always wanted to make a large quilt of verry small simple squares, with as much different fabrics possible. About 25 years ago I saw a picture of one and I loved it, now I think its time to start, but I don't have a huge stash of quiltfabrics yet:)

Most of the fabrics I do have are not suited, when I saw the packs I thought this mayby is the way to get started?

Okay, now I know. In my head its coming together, I will start the ? (I don't know how this sort of quilt is named (just many manu little squares, I will look it up) and I'm going to search for fabrics for another one that I'm going to do for my husband, its called Golden Wedding, he loved the symplicity of the basic pattern.

I like the idea, overhere some shops carry small packs, 10 sorted or colorcoded, but they are expensive, about 6 dollars for a pack of 10

6'squares. They are made for people who do scrapping for instance or little projects.

I have about 12 charm square packs of between 35 and 52 squares each put aside to make into a King Size quilt for myself. All up that is over 450 different fabric prints. If I just sew the squares together with no sashing or borders I need over 600. If I cut and piece the blocks I will need more as I will lose fabric in seam allowances. I will collect until I have around 750 then start sewing.

I hope to sort them into lights and darks and make some sort of scrappy star pattern. I'm not really sure yet.

Aha, thanks for the maths:) I haven't decided about the mesurments of the squars, I think it will be 2' squares.
