Feel Like I've Been Away, but (half OT)

My computer went in for her sort of annual D&C, but stayed gone awhile getting reformatted and new video and wifi cards. I missed you guys!

But in my extra time, I didn finish the center panel of a quilt for my husband's oldest daughter. I made quilts for all three girls when they got married. But that was years ago and I figure they each deserve a new one.

Suzie picked out the pattern and the fabric direction when she was visiting last year. Gosh, that's a lot of half-square triangles!

Plain muslin borders will have appliqued vine and leaves. I have a quilting date of 5/14, so I'll get 'er done by then.

I really, really like the way you've placed your blocks, Joan. And, I think a border with vines and leaves is the perfect balance. Beautiful quilt. Eager to see the Grand Finale. Polly

I just spoke my admiration for that out loud (no-one else here!) - couldn't help myself. I just love it. The finished quilt is going to be gorgeous.

As it happens, I have a box full of half square triangles (a radical mistake at the beginning of my current quilt!) - I knew there would be a project for them >gMy computer went in for her sort of annual D&C, but stayed gone awhile

Well, no, the points don't all line up perfectly, but at a distance they look just fine. From 12", not so much. I used Thangles which seems the best way for me to make half square triangles. 1.75" in this quilt. 40x16=640?

And I've had a thought. I've got an appointment for machine quilting in May. I could have the center portion quilted, side to side, all over pattern. But have them leave 12" of backing and batting unquilted around all four sides. THEN add the borders so I could do either hand (not likely) or my hand quided machine quilting. Think that would work? Could I get the balance of quilting the same between the center and borders? Or just 'what the heck' put the borders on and have the whole thing done at once?

i think i would leave it like it is. no borders. and quilt it all at once. what a great quilt. she's gonna love it!

It's beautiful, simply beautiful. I just LOVE HST's. Does that block have a name?

The pattern by Fig Tree is Amelia's Meadow. I believe it's an Ocean Waves block. j

Thanks! That's one to add to the list of 'try soon' ;-)
